체제전환국가 내 기업들의 경영성과 분석

국문 초록

체제전환국가들의 경우 지리적으로 우리나라와 멀리 떨어져 있을 뿐만 아니라 과거 구공산권의 향유했었던 시스템적 특성상 이들 국가 내 기업들의 경영성과에 대한 경영학계의 관심은 미미했다. 점차 EU지역으로 진출하는 우리나라 기업들의 해외직접투자기 체제전환국으로 확대되어 가고 있는 것이 현실 하에서 장기적인 관점 하에 체제전환국가와 현지국 기업들의 경영성과에 대한 연구가 필요한 시점이다. 이러한 관점에서 본 연구는 구(舊)소련 체제전환국가를 크게 친(親)EU 그룹과 친(親)러시아 그룹으로 양분해 각 그룹 내 기업들의 경영성과가 어떠한 메카니즘에 의해 결정되는가를 실증적으로 분석하는 데에 초점을 맞추었다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 친EU 그룹 내 기업들의 경우 외국계 지분율이 높을수록 경영성과가 개선되는 반면 친러시아 그룹 내 기업들의 경우 국가 및 국가기관의 지분율이 높을수록 경영성과가 개선된다. 둘째, 총노동비용의 상승은 친러시아 그룹 내 기업들에 비해 친EU 그룹 내 기업들의 경영성과를 보다 진작시키게 된다. 셋째, 친러시아 그룹 내 기업들에 비해 친EU 그룹 내 기업들이 보다 경쟁에 강하고 혁신을 경영성과로 연결시키기 쉽다. 이러한 연구결과는 양 그룹 간 기업들의 경영성과에 있어 그 차이가 존재한다는 점을 적시하고, 이를 결정하는 요인들 역시 상이하다는 점을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Due to traditional communism heritages prevailing across transition countries as well as geographic distance from Korea, they hardly enjoy any academic interest; however, as Korean firms’ expands to European countries, those transition countries close to West European region has been highlighted as main target countries for foreign direct investments. From this perspective, this study is intended to scrutinize how transition countries are able to provide favorable business environments and how their firm performance is determined under ex-communism heritages. For this purpose, transition countries are classified into two groups: EU-group and Russia group. Intuitively, those firms within the former are more likely to perform better as they interact EU firms more actively. Main empirical results are to the followings. First, the higher the foreign ownership is, the higher the firms performance of the EU group while the higher the state ownership is, the higher the firms performance of the Russia group is. Second, the higher the labor cot is, those firms within the EU group rather than the Russia group perform better. Third, compared to the Russia group, the EU group shows higher resilience on competition and is more likely to innovate. The empirical results suggest that there exist obvious firm performance differences between the two groups.
