국문 초록

본 연구는 기업의 상반된 현금보유 목적을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 현금보유와 관련된 지배주주의 기회주의적 행동에 따른 기회비용은 모든 주주가 동일하게 부담하는 것은 아니다. 이러한 기회비용 중 대부분은 주요대주주가 부담하게 된다. 내부 유보현금은 자본시장의 감시를 받지않고, 자신에게 유리한 투자안을 선택할 가능성이 있다. 분석결과는 핵심관심 변수인 기업혁신 변수는 통계적 유의수준 1%에서 초과현금보유 변수와 양(+)의 관련성을 갖고 있지만, 현금보유 변수와는 통계적인 유의성이 존재하지 않았다. 이는 기업혁신이 큰 기업일수록 기업의 초과 현금보유 의사결정에는 유의한 영향요인으로 작용하지만, 혁신이 일반적인 현금보유의 결정요인으로 작용하지 않음을 시사한다. 또 다른 핵심변수인 주요대주주 변수는 현금보유 변수와 통계적 유의수준 1%에서 종속변수와 양(+)의 관련성을 보여주었지만, 초과현금보유 변수와 통계적 유의수준 5%에서 음(-)의 관련성을 보여주었다. 이는 주요대주주가 현금보유 측면에서 현금보유를 증대시키는 요인으로 작용할 수 있음을 의미하고, 반대로 초과현금보유 의사결정에서 주요대주주 지분율이 높을수록 지배주주의 초과현금보유 증대에 부정적인 견제역할을 수행할 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This paper demonstrates theoretically and empirically that strategic considerations are important in shaping cash policies of innovative firm. The study shows that firm’s equilibrium cash holdings are related to the innovation and that this relation is affected by the degree of financial constraints that firms face. This paper tests our model using a sample of firm that are direct estimation measure in innovation. Consistent with the strategic motive for hoarding cash, this paper shows that firm’s cash holdings are positively affected by the innovation and negatively affected by blockholders. In addition, we examine four instances of blockholders type and show that financial constrains influence the relation between firm’s cash holdings and blockholders type in ways consistent with the model’s predictions. This study conclude that the empirical evidences found in this paper are robust regardless of several competition measures and estimation methods. The findings suggest that the firms’ innovation play a key role in decision making of cash holdings policy of firms.
