기업의 R&D투자와 성장과의 관계에 대한 실증분석 : 고용창출형 고성장기업의 특성을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 연구개발지출이 기업의 성장성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 분석결과, R&D투자는 기업의 성장성에 매우 유의한 양(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 R&D투자의 이차항을 설명변수로 추가하여 R&D투자와 기업의 성장성 간에 비선형관계가 존재하는지를 분석한 결과, R&D투자는 기업의 성장성과 비선형관계를 지닌 것으로 나타났다. 즉 R&D투자를 나타내는 R&D집중도의 이차항의 추정계수가 모두 1% 유의수준을 충족하는 유의한 양(+)의 수치로 나타나, 기업의 R&D투자와 기업의 성장간에는 강한 U자형 관계가 존재함을 확인할 수 있었다. 성장유형별 특성을 살펴보기 위해 종속변수를 고성장과 저성장으로 구분한 로짓모형을 통해 분석하였다. 분석결과, 연구개발의 지출유형에 따라 성장유형별로 서로 다른 영향을 받는다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 자본화된 R&D투자는 고용측면의 고성장을 촉진시키는 요인인 반면, 비용 처리된 R&D투자는 고용없는 성장을 촉진시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 고용증진을 위해서는 자본화되는 R&D투자를 늘릴 필요가 있어 보인다.

영문 초록

In this study, we examined the effect of R&D expenditure on the growth of a company. As a result, R&D expenditure has a significant positive effect on the growth of the firm. The quadratic term of R&D expenditure is added as an explanatory variable to analyze whether there is a non-linear relationship between R&D expenditure and firm s growth potential. The results show that there is a non-linear relationship between R&D expenditure and firm s growth. Specifically, the estimation coefficients of the quadratic term of the R&D intensity are all significant (+) values that satisfy the 1% significance level. This shows that there is a strong U-shaped relationship between R&D expenditure and firm growth. In order to examine the characteristics of growth type, dependent variables were classified into high growth and low growth and logit analysis was performed. As a result of logit analysis, we know that the expenditure types of R&D are influenced according to the types of growth. Capitalized R&D expenditure is a driving factor for high employment growth, while cost-treated R&D expenditure is a driving factor for jobless growth.
