국문 초록

끊임없이 쏟아지는 지식과 정보의 21세기 현대사회는 매체환경의 다변화 속에서 언어의 소통 방식도 미디어가 만들어내는 사회문화적 영향 아래 진화해가고 있다. 이러한 현실은 특히 일반 목적 한국어의 고급과정이나 학문 목적 한국어의 교육에서도 체계적인 미디어 리터러시(media literacy)의 교육에 대한 필요성을 시사해주고 있다. 즉 미디어를 통해 소통하는 현실은 언어교육에 있어서도 체계적인 교육적 변화를 요구하고 있는 것이다. 미디어 리터러시 교육의 주요 목적은 미디어에 대한 의미 해석과 이해를 바탕으로 더 나아가 스스로 미디어를 통해 창의적으로 의미를 구성하여 표현하고 소통할 수 있는 능력을 기르는 데 있다. 그러나 교육 현장에서는 미디어 리터러시의 교육에 대한 필요성을 인식하면서도 언어교육의 한정적이고 제한된 여건 속에서 이를 독립된 교과로 다루기가 쉽지는 않았다. 이에 본고는 학문 목적 한국어 학습과정에서 접하는 여러 과목들 중에서 다양한 미디어 자료들을 접하여 미디어 리터러시의 향상을 위한 교육적 방안에 초점을 두었다. 이는 지금까지 미디어 자료들이 한국어 학습의 보조 자료나 학습 활동으로 활용되어 온 측면이 아닌, 독립적 영역으로서의 미디어 리터러시의 교육적 기능과 역할을 살펴보고자 했다. 그리고 이를 학문 목적 한국어의 교수-학습으로 연계될 수 있는 교육적 방안도 모색해보고자 하였다. 이러한 목적을 수행하기 위해서 미디어 리터러시의 교육 특성상 교과 중심 교육 방법보다는 언어 기능의 통합적 접근이 용이하고 비교적 효과적이라고 보는 문제중심학습(problem-based learning:PBL)의 교육 방법을 활용하였다.

영문 초록

In modern society of the 21st century inundated with knowledge and information, the ways of communication in language have evolved along with the diversification of media environments, being affected by the sociocultural influence of media. This reality suggests the necessity of systemized media literacy education in advanced Korean language courses for general purposes and in Korean courses for academic purposes. That is, well-planned educational shifts are required in language education under the circumstances that communication is done through media. The main purpose of media literacy education is to interpret the meaning of media, to understand them and to foster an ability to construct meanings in a creative way through media on one s own, to express oneself and to communicate. In the educational sector, however, it s not easy to deal with media literacy education as a separate subject due to the limited given conditions for language education, though the necessity of this education is well recognized. The purpose of this study was to develop an educational plan to improve media literacy in various KAP(Korean for academic purposes) courses as part of media education by which learners are exposed to a wide variety of media materials. It s especially meant to examine the educational functions and roles of media literacy as an independent area, unlike existing practices that media materials have just used as auxiliary materials for Korean language learning or learning activities for the language. In addition, this study also attempted to explore how to link it with KAP teaching and learning. To achieve the purpose of the study, problem-based learning(PBL), which makes it easier to take an integrated approach to language functions and is considered to be relatively effective, was utilized because of the characteristics of media literacy education instead of subject-centered educational methods.
