초등 영어 말하기 지도 효과에 대한 메타분석

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 말하기 지도가 초등 영어 학습자에게 어떠한 영향을 주는지에 관하여 메타분석의 방법을 통해 종합적으로 살펴보는데 있다. 이를 위해 메타분석의 조건을 만족하는 총 29편의 연구들 가운데 94개의 개별 효과크기를 산출하였고 전체 평균 효과크기와 종속변인별 효과크기를 구하였다. 또한 각기 다른 말하기 지도 방법을 독립변인으로 설정하여 각 지도법의 효과크기를 살펴보았으며, 학년 및 처치 시간등을 조절변인으로 설정하여 조절변인의 효과에 대하여도 살펴보았다. 분석 결과 말하기 지도는 전반적으로 큰 효과크기를 보이는 것으로 나타난 가운데 인지적 효과가정의적 효과보다 컸다. 특히 말하기 지도는 인지적 영역의 정확성 및 발음 부문과, 정의적 영역의 참여도와 흥미도, 그리고 불안감감소 부문에서 큰 효과를 보였다. 말하기 지도 방법의 경우 TBA가 인지적 영역과 정의적 영역에서 큰 효과크기를 보였다. 조절변인의 효과를 살펴보았을 때에는 매체 활용 시간과 역할극 멤버 수에 따라 효과크기가 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다.

영문 초록

This study is to investigate the effects of speaking instruction on Korean elementary school English learners by employing a meta-analysis. To this end, this study collected 29 studies done in Korean elementary school setting satisfying the meta analysis criteria. From the primary studies, 94 effects sizes were calculated. This study examined the mean effect size of the speaking instruction in primary ELT, the differences among the types of instruction techniques (independent variable) and the differences of mediating variables such as grade, treatment time. The findings are: Speaking instruction in Primary ELT had an overall large-sized effect, with its effect being bigger in the cognitive domain than in the affective domain. Also it was found that speaking instruction in primary ELT would be effective in the areas of accuracy and pronunciation, and would bring about positive effects on developing learner interest and positive attitudes toward English learning while reducing the anxiety coming along with the learning of English. A statistical significance was found in mediating variables for treatment time of media use and number of members in role playing group.
