언론보도 분석을 통한 과학영재교육 관련 핵심 의제설정 변화 비교

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 언론에서 보도된 뉴스 기사를 분석함으로써 과학영재교육에 대한 핵심의제 설정이 어떻게 변화해 왔는지를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 이를 위하여 최근 20년간(1998～2017년) 보도된 과학영재교육 관련 뉴스 기사 총 628건을 수집한 후 텍스트 네트워크 분석 방법을 활용하여 언론에서 설정한 핵심 의제가 어떻게 변화해왔는지 비교하였다. 분석 결과 대체로 언론에서 가장 주목하고 있는 과학영재교육에 대한 핵심의제는 크게 1) 영재교육을 통한 상급학교 진학, 2) 과학영재들의 의대 진학 문제, 3) 과학영재교육의 확대로 인한 사교육 조장 우려, 4) 과학기술 분야의 인재 양성 필요성, 5) 국제과학올림피아드 관련 이슈 등 다섯 가지로 구분할 수 있었다. 특히, 그동안의 영재교육 관련 종합계획이 주로 영재교육의 양적 확대에 초점이 맞춰져 왔기 때문에 이로 인한 부작용을 우려한 뉴스 기사가 많은 비중을 차지한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 선행연구 결과와 달리 언론보도 분석을 통해 살펴본 과학영재교육 관련뉴스 기사가 긍정적 측면에 대한 이슈보다는 상대적으로 부정적 측면에 대한 이슈를 중심으로 의제가 설정되어 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to analyze news articles over the past 20 years to find out how the media’s core agenda-setting for science gifted education has changed. For this purpose, I collected a total of 628 news articles related science gifted education from 1998 to 2017, and then using the method of text network analysis, I examined the differences in agenda setting in the media. The results of the analysis are as follows. Although the were some differences according to the flow of time, five item have appeared to be on the agenda of science gifted education, which is generally the media’s most important topic. 1) Advanced schooling through gifted education, 2) The phenomenon of the scientific gifted entering medical school, 3) Concerns over the deepening of private education due to the expansion of science gifted education, 4) The necessity of fostering scientific and technological talent, 5) Issues related to the international science olympiad. In particular, since the master plan for gifted education focused mainly on the quantitative expansion of gifted education, the content of the news articles concerned about the side effect of the gifted education contents was found to take a large part. Unlike previous research results, it was found that news articles related to science gifted education were set up on issues relatively negative aspects rather than positive ones.
