여성체육교육자의 생애구술을 통해 살펴본 근현대 학교체육의 경험과 의미 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 현역에서 은퇴한 여성체육교육자의 생애구술을 통해 근현대 학교체육에 대한 당시의 상황을 이해하고 다양한 개인적 경험과 의미를 탐색하는데 있다. 이를 위해 1946년 출생하여 제1차 교육과정기부터 제7차 교육과정기를 거치며 근 현대 학교체육에 대한 다양한 경험을 한, 여성체육교육자를 연구 참여자로 선정하여 2015년 11월부터 2016년 2월까지 5차례의 만남과 총 10시간의 생애사 면담을 진행하였다. 그 결과 학교체육에 대한 학습자로서의 경험, 교사로서의 경험, 장학사로서의 경험, 교감·교장으로서의 경험의 네 가지로 나타났다. 학습자로서의 경험한 학교체육은 놀이와 같았고, 교육과정에서 제시한 내용과 무관한 군사훈련 중심이었다. 체육교사로서의 경험은 체육시설, 용기구 등이 열악한 환경 속에서도 교육과정의 실행을 위해 개척정신을 가지고 수업을 운영하였고, 새로이 국책과목으로 신설된 교련 과목을 담당하기도 하였으며, 청소년 체조의 개발과 보급에도 많은 기여를 하였다. 여성이라는 이유로 차별을 받았고, 정과체육 보다는 엘리트 스포츠 위주의 행정에 치중되어있는 장학사 업무를 경험하였다. 교감·교장으로서는 그 동안의 다양한 경험이 그녀의 전문성이 되어 학생 중심의 행복한 학교를 만들기 위해 노력하였고, 교육의 근본 확립과 전인교육 양성을 위해 힘썼다. 이와 같이 여성체육교육자의 다양한 경험과 의미를 탐색해봄으로써 근현대 학교체육의 다양한 모습을 살펴볼 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand and examine the situation and personal experiences and meanings of physical education in modern history through the narration of a retired female physical education teacher. For this purpose, a female physical education teacher was selected as a research participant who was born in 1946 and had diverse experience with physical education from the first through seventh curriculum. There were 5 meetings with total of 10 hours of interviews. As a result, there were four experiences of school physical education, experience as learner, teacher, supervisor, and vice principal·principal. As a learner, school physical education was like a play, and was centered on military training irrespective of what was presented in the curriculum. As a teacher, she managed classes with a pioneering spirit for the implementation of the curriculum, even in the harsh environment of physical education facilities and equipment. She was also responsible for the newly created subject, school military drill, as a subject of national policy and contributed to the development and dissemination of youth gymnastics. Her experience as a supervisor was one of discrimination due to her gender, and she experienced supervisory work focused on elite sports oriented administration rather than physical education. As a vice principal and principal, she tried to create a student-centered, happy school based on her professional experience and also made efforts to establish the foundation of education as well as holistic education. This study reviewed various aspects of physical education in modern school by exploring various experiences and meanings through the career of a female physical education teacher.
