청각장애 대학생의 의사소통 경험 탐색

국문 초록

배경 및 목적: 국내 청각장애 대학생의 연구는 수어와 농문화 관련 연구에 편중된 경향이 있고 음성언어를 사용해 의사소통하는 청각장애 대학생의 의사소통 경험이나 의사소통 전략을 탐구한 연구는 제한적이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 음성언어를 사용하는 청각장애 대학생이 겪은 의사소통 경험의 의미와 본질을 탐색함으로써 이들의 의사소통 경험을 심층적으로 이해하고 의사소통 서비스 향상을 위한 실제적 정보를 얻고자 하였다. 방법: 청각장애 대학생 6명을 참여시켜 개별 심층면담을 진행하고 자료를 구성하여 Colaizzi 현상학적 방법론을 적용하여 분석하였다. 범주화 과정에서 추출된 진술들을 지속적으로 비교하고, 분석과 해석을 반복하며 순환적으로 이루어지는 질적 연구의 흐름에 따라 분석을 진행하였다. 결과: 13개의 하위 주제와 4개의 주제, 즉 <의사소통 접근성의 제한>, <긍정적의사소통 경험>, <의사소통 특징: 느슨한 연결>, <의사소통 복구전략>으로 유목화 하였으며, 최종 범주로 <의사소통 경험: 끊임없는 노력의 연속>을 도출하였다. 논의 및 결론: 본 연구에 참여한 청각장애 대학생들은 환경적, 물리적 요인으로 의해 의사소통 장벽을 경험하였다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 이들은 끊임없는 노력과 사회적 의사소통 지원에 힘입어 청각장애로 인한 의사소통의 어려움을 긍정적으로 극복해 나가고 있음을 보여주었다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 청각장애 대학생의 원활한 의사소통을 돕기 위해 고려해야 할 요인과 향후 서비스 방안에 관해 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives: The studies on hearing-impaired college students in Korea tend to focus on sign language and deaf culture, however studies exploring the communication experiences or communication strategies of students who communicate using spoken language are limited. Therefore, this study aimed to deeply understand their communication experiences and obtain practical information for improving communication services by exploring the meaning and essence of the communication experiences of hearing-impaired college students who use spoken language. Methods: Individual in-depth interviews were conducted with six hearing-impaired college students, and data was organized and analyzed using the Colaizzi phenomenological methodology. The statements extracted during the categorization process were continuously compared, and the analysis and interpretation were repeated, following a cyclical flow of qualitative research. Results: 13 subthemes and 4 themes were categorized into ‘Limitations in communication accessibility’, ‘Positive communication experiences’, ‘Communication characteristics: Loose connection’, and ‘Communication recovery strategies’. And the final category was ‘Communication experiences: Continuation of ceaseless efforts’. Conclusion: The hearing-impaired college students who participated in this study experienced limitations in environmental and physical communication accessibility. Nevertheless, it was confirmed that they positively overcame the communication difficulties caused by hearing impairment through continuous efforts and social communication supports. Based on the results of this study, important factors to consider for smooth communication of hearing-impaired college students and future services were discussed.
