子供の存在が夫婦にどのような影響を及ぼし、どのような意味を持つかに対する谷崎の信念は結婚初期から確固たるものだった。自分の芸術世界に子供は邪魔になる存在であり、子供によって自分が犠牲にならないというエゴイスト的な性向は実生活だけでなく作品世界にも反映されている。そのため、初期活力にあふれて挑戦的な子供の姿とは異なり、家庭内で描かれる子供の姿はさまよって傷つき、時には親から捨てられる存在として描写された。谷崎の作品のうち、家庭内に登場する子供は、実際の谷崎自身だけでなく、周囲の人物とも密接な関連を持っているといえる。作品で子供の姿は両親との関係によって多様に描写されているが、両親の無能さを恨んで不道徳な行為を日常的に行う子供をはじめ、家庭が没落し一瞬にして捨てられた子供が母を探し迷う切ない姿も描かれている。子供が嫌いな谷崎はその後の作品で夫婦は存在するが、家庭内で子供の姿は見られない。後期になって作家としても家庭的にも安定した時期になって初めて子供らしい子供を描写することで、彼の子供に対するより溫かい視線を感じることができる。結局、家庭経済の安定、夫婦の信頼、社会的成功が子供の成長にどのような影響を与えるのかについて深く悩まざるを得ない。このような姿は100年余りが過ぎた現代の家庭でも重なる部分で、未来を貫く谷崎の洞察力を改めて確認することができる。

영문 초록

Tanizaki’s belief about how the existence of a child affects a married couple and what it means to them was firm since the inception of his marriage. In his artistic world, children are regarded as disrupting entities, and his egotistical inclination to avoid children-related sacrifice is reflected not only in his real life but also in the worlds described in a series of his works. Therefore, unlike energetic and challenging children, he described children in families as wandering and wounded entities, and at times, the entities abandoned by their parents. In Tanizaki’s works, it is fair to say that the children described in the family setting have close connections not only with Tanizaki himself but also with the people around them. In his works, children are diversely portrayed in connection with their parents, including those who resent their parents’ incompetence and engage in immoral activities daily and those sad children who are abandoned in an instant due to their families’ bankruptcy but still search for their mothers. Since Tanizaki disliked children, his subsequence works depict married couples, but not children in the home family setting. Tanizaki, who stabilizes both as a writer and in his life, starts to describe children as they are, and from this moment, we see his warmer attitude towards children. These are indicative that one cannot help deeply thinking about the impact of financial stability, mutual trust in married couples, and social success on the development of children. Such depictions have something to do with our contemporary families even after about 100 years have passed, and this is where we reaffirm Tanizaki’s future-oriented longstanding insight.
