국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 국민공통 기본교과목에 대한 학습자의 인식을 선호도, 중요도, 그리고 강조도로 나누어 살펴보고, 이와 함께 학생들의 교육적 요구는 어떠한지에 대하여 조사하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 10개교(초등학교와 중학교 각각 5개)에서 총 981명의 학생(초등학생 487명, 중학생 494명)이 설문에 참여하였다. 연구 결과, 교과에 대한 학생들의 선호도 반응은 교과별로 유의미한 차이를 보이면서 학교급이 올라감에 따라 낮아지고 있었고, 중요도와 강조도 반응은 학교급에 상관없이 주요교과에서 높게 나타났다. 이는 좋아하는 교과가 따로 있다 해도 학교에서 강조하고 있는 교과를 학습자 스스로 중요한 교과로 인식하고 있는 것으로 해석할 수 있다. 또한 학생들은 현행 공통필수 교과목 외의 교육내용에 대한 요구를 드러내었다. 이 같은 결과를 토대로, 본 연구는 국민공통 기본교과 학습이 학습자의 성장에 효과적으로 기여할 수 있기 위해서는 국가교육과정을 개발·운영함에 있어서 보다 적극적으로 학습자의 요구를 반영할 수 있는 현실적인 논의가 이루어져야 함을 제안한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate perception and needs of the secondary school learners' for the national common basic curriculum in terms of individual preference, personal importance and institutional emphasis. The participants in the survey consist of a total of 981 students (487 from 6th grade out of 5 elementary schools and 494 from 9th grade out of 5 middle schools) who completed a questionnaire-based survey. Survey results reveal that difference in the students' preference between subjects is statistically meaningful. It is also observed that, as students's grade get higher, they further lose interest in subjects, and the levels of personal importance and institutional emphasis turn out to be high for the core subjects (e.g. math, english, science) regardless of their grade. These results indicate that, although the students are more interested in non-core subjects (e.g. music, art, physical education, etc), the core subjects with high emphasis, meaning that the students think schools put more emphasis on the core subjects than other subjects, are also recognized as important subjects that they should more focus on. Furthermore, the students show their needs for other subjects (although not specified) besides the current subjects. The findings suggest that more diverse discussion and subsequent realistic activities for listening to and reflecting the learners' opinions in the process of developing and practicing national curriculum are further needed to increase positive effects of the national common basic curriculum on students' learning and achievement.
