국문 초록

본 논문은 조세희의 연작소설 『난장이가 쏘아올린 작은 공』에 구사된 어휘의 상징을 통해 작품의 의미를 해석해보고자 하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 『난장이가 쏘아올린 작은 공』은 리얼리즘과 모더니즘 모두로부터 자양분을 받은 작품으로 평가받아 왔고, 형식이나 기법, 그리고 문체에 관한 연구도 활발하게 이루어져왔다. 그러나 『난장이가 쏘아올린 작은 공』어휘 연구는 미진했다. 『난장이가 쏘아올린 작은 공』에 구사된 어휘의 상징 연구는 소설의 어휘 연구가 소설어사전 편찬 단계에서 본격적인 독서지수(Lectio Quotient) 평가에까지 이르렀다는 점에서 그 필요성이 커졌다. 조세희는 『난장이가 쏘아올린 작은 공』에서 개인적 상징이라는 미적 장치를 통해 작품의 리얼리티를 잘 구현하고 있다. ‘난쟁이’, ‘앉은뱅이’, ‘꼽추’는 각각 산업사회의 소외된 계급을 상징하고, 꿈과 이상이 실현되는 나라인 ‘달나라’와 달나라에로의 비상을 말하는 ‘쇠공’은 각각 난쟁이가 꿈꾸는 세상을 이야기한다. 난쟁이와 그 가족은 ‘우주인’으로 상징되고, 먹고 사느라 난쟁이에게 너무 무거운 ‘놋수저’는 고통과 가난의 문제를 상징한다. 사회적 관계에서도 그대로 적용되는 ‘먹이 피라미드’와 열악한 노동 조건을 말해주는 ‘옷핀’은 수탈과 지배구조를 의미한다. 그리고 아래에서 위로 향한 ‘칼’과 억압받는 노동자를 상징하는 ‘가시고기’는 대립 구조를 말해주고 있다. 할 말을 다할 수 없었던 시대에 조세희는 상징 언어로 ‘제삼세계형 파괴자’들을 상대했다

영문 초록

The most purpose of this thesis is to explicate the meaning of the literary work through the symbol of vocabularies commanded in 『The small ball which a pygmy shot up』, a serial novel written by Cho, Se Hee, a novelist. 『The small ball which a pygmy shot up』 has been appreciated as the work which taken nutritious food from all of realism and modernism, also it has animated a study on its formalities, technique, and literary style in the literary circles. But the study on vocabularies commanded in 『The small ball which a pygmy shot up』 was insignificant. A study on the symbol of vocabularies commanded in 『The small ball which a pygmy shot up』 has increased its necessity in the point that a study on vocabularies in a literary work was extended to a fundamental evaluation of Lectio Quotient from course of compilation of Dictionary of Novel Literature. 『The small ball which a pygmy shot up』 written by Cho, Se Hee, the novelist well embodies the reality of the work through esthetic devices of a personal symbol. The pygmy, hunchback and wheelchaired-man to be crippled with rheumatism, symbolizes the social strata which was left out of the industrial society. And such a stories of the lunar world to realize their dream and ideal and the iron-ball to soar up to the lunar world talk about the world that each of them dreams of. The wheelchaired-man and his family is symbolized as aliens, and a brazen-spoon as problems of misery and poor due to struggling for life. Also, the food-chain pyramid which applies to a social relationship and 'the clothes-pin' which told a poor labour conditions means the ruling and exploitation structure. And “Pungitius sinensis” to symbolizes the oppressed labour and the upward sward from the bottom tell some antagonistic relationships of antagonistic relationships.
