미감아(未感兒), 도래하지 않은 미래의 폭력

국문 초록

일제강점기 소록도 한센인들은 평생 격리와 차별의 굴레에서 살아왔다. 특히 결혼과 자녀 출산이라는 인간의 기본권마저 박탈당했다. 이런 억압을 피해 태어난 자녀들은 미감아라는 이름으로 또 다른 타자가 되었다. 본고는 한센병 소설(이청준의 『당신들의 천국』, 윤정모의 『그리고 함성이 들렸다』, 소재원의 『그날』)과 한센인 잡지 『복지』, 신문 기사 등을 바탕으로, 한센인의 결혼과 가족 형성, 한센인 자녀 입학 거부 등 미감아 문제를 도래하지 않은 미래의 폭력과 타자화라는 관점에서 분석하였다. 먼저 소록도 한센인의 단종수술, 결혼 허가, 자녀 출산과 관련된 한센병 소설의 서사를 살펴보았다. 특히 소설은 우리 사회가 ‘도래하지 않은 미래’를 ‘감염 가능성’이라는 이유로 한센인과 그 자녀들을 억압했던 문제에 초점 두고 있었다. 즉, 소설 속 소록도는 한센인 통제를 위해 의도적으로 단종수술, 결혼 허가, 미감아 수용 등을 행했던 공간이었다. 다음으로 한센인 잡지 『복지』에 수록된 텍스트와 신문 기사에서 미감아 취학과 취학 거부 운동을 중심으로 사회적으로 타자화된 미감아 문제를 살펴보았다. 이미 한센병이 치료가능하고 전염력이 약한 질병이라는 사실이 의학적으로 증명되었지만 일반인들은 여전히 공포심을 가지고 한센인과 미감아에 대한 차별적 시선과 거부감을 거두지 않았다. 이처럼 미감아의 타자화 문제는 전염병에 대한 무지와 우생학, 인종주의가 결합하여 권력의 폭력과 대중의 두려움이 여과 없이 발산된 결과이다. 그러므로 이와 같은 과거를 다시 반복하지 않기 위해 타자의 목소리를 추적하고 복원하여 또 다른 타자가 만들어지지 않도록 하는 것이 바로 공동체가 존재하는 이유일 것이다.

영문 초록

Based on novels, newspaper articles, and essays related to Hansen, this paper analyzed the family composition of Hansen's parents, the birth of children, and the problem of Migam-a(未感兒). The Hansen people in the novel were exploited in Sorok Island, Japanese colonial era. They have lived on the brink of isolation and discrimination all their lives. In particular, even the basic human rights of marriage and childbirth were deprived. Children born to avoid such a process of oppression have become another subject of discrimination under the name of Migam-a(未感兒). The Hansen people wanted to refuse to let punishment of heaven continue to their children. In the novels of Lee Chung-joon, Yoon Jung-mo, and So Jae-won, problems related to discontinuation surgery, marriage permission, and childbirth of Hansen people were examined. Our society has dealt with the problem of taking away the basic human rights of Hansen people and suppressing their children with the possibility of infection in the future that has not arrived. For the control of the Hansen people, discrimination was created with the term “Migam-a(未感兒)” that could deliberately manage Hansen's children. In other words, Migam-a(未感兒) is a the other. In addition, the texts included in newspaper articles and Hansen's magazines 『Welfares』 were narrated centering on the movement to refuse to attend school for Hansen's children. Although it has already been medically proven that Hansen's disease is curable and not contagious, the public is still opposed to the activities of Hansen's children. The problem of otherization of Migam-a(未感兒) is a combination of ignorance of infectious diseases, eugenics, and racism. Whether they wanted to or not, they had no choice but to go and stand in their place, which the world had already cut. In the end, it will be up to the community to track and restore the voices of those who have been reduced to the other
