해방기 신정언과 김동인의 활약상과 그 행방

국문 초록

본 논문은 부제에서 적시했듯 “해방과 야담(작)가들”의 첫 번째 글에 해당한다. 이 장기 프로젝트를 기획하게 된 이유는 식민지시기에 머무르고 있는 야담사(野談史)를 해방 이후로 옮기고자 하는 목적 때문이다. 본 논문은 ‘식민지시기 유명 야담가는 해방 이후 어떻게 되었는가’를 실마리 삼아 이 과제에 접근해보고자 했다. 근(현대) 오락을 표방하며 식민지시기에 맹활약했던 이 유명 야담가들의 해방 이후 행적이야말로 그 단초를 제공하리라는 개인적 판단도 한몫했다. 야담 연구자라면 누구나 한 번쯤 품음 직한 의문이지만, 이를 다룬 선행연구는 없었다. 본 논문은 이 의문에 대한 해답이자 해방 이후 야담사로 나아가기 위한 밑그림으로서 그 의미를 지닌다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 신정언과 김동인의 해방 이후 행적을 다뤘다. 이들을 택하게 된 가장 주된 근거는 해방 이후 이들의 활동 기간이 겹친다는 점 때문이다. 1950년 7월 신정언의 피랍에 이어 1951년 2월 김동인의 죽음은 한국전쟁의 파고를 넘지 못한 두 사람의 비극을 말해준다. 해방일로부터 근 5년여가 이들의 주 활동 시간대였던 셈이다. 하지만 이 기간에 두 사람이 실제 어떤 활동을 했는지는 알려진 바가 적다. 본 논문은 2장에서 신정언을 중심으로 이를 해명했다면, 3장에서는 김동인을 대상으로 논의를 진행했다. 선행연구가 드문 현실을 반영해 이들의 해방기 저서를 목록화하는 기초 작업도 병행했다. 야담사류가 민족문학자를 자처한다고 꼬집었던 임화의 발언에 담긴 야담(가)의 주변적 지위는 식민지시기의 연장이기도 했지만, 양 진영이 대치한 해방기 정세 속에서 우익 진영의 민족문학을 대변하는 활동 공간을 열어주기도 했음을 2장과 3장은 드러내준다. 결론인 4장에서는 이들의 왕성한 활동에도 잊힌 신정언의 피랍 경위를 되짚음으로써 망각에 맞서는 기억하기를 그 대안으로 제시하였다.

영문 초록

As stated in the subtitle, this paper corresponds to the first article of “Liberation and Yadamers”. The reason for planning this long-term project is because of the purpose of moving the history of Yadam, which remains in colonial times, after liberation. This paper attempted to approach this task as a clue to ‘what happened to Yadamers, famous for the colonial era, after liberation’. The famous Yadamers’ post-liberation activities, which were active during the colonial period with modern entertainment, would provide the clue. It is a question that any Yadam researcher has, but there have been no previous studies dealing with it. This paper is meaningful as an answer to this question and as a base work to advance to the history of Yadam after liberation. To this end, this paper dealt with Shin Jeong-eon and Kim Dong-in’s post-liberation activities. The main reason for choosing them is that their activities after liberation overlap. Following Shin Jeong-eon’s kidnapped to North Korea in July 1950, Kim Dong-in’s death in February 1951 tells the tragedy of the two men who failed to overcome the wave of the Korean War. It means that they have been their main activity for about five years from the day of liberation. However, it is not known what kind of activities the two actually did during this period. In Chapter 2, this paper explained this with a focus on Shin Jeong-eon, but in Chapter 3, it was discussed with Kim Dong-in. Reflecting the rare reality of previous studies, this paper also carried out a basic work of cataloging their liberation period writings. The marginal status of Yadam in Lim Hwa’s remarks, which criticized Yadamers as self-proclaimed national literary scholars, was also an extension of the colonial period, but in the liberation situation in which the two camps faced each other, it opened the stage to represent the national literature of the right wing. Chapters 2 and 3 reveal that it was given. Chapter 4 replaces the conclusion of this paper by suggesting a memory against this oblivion by retracing the background of Shin Jeong-eon’s kidnapped to North Korea, which was forgotten despite their vigorous activities.
