국문 초록

이 논문은 제주도 최초의 잡지로 알려진 『신생(新生)』 관련 자료가 새로이 발굴됨에 따라 그것에 대한 기초적, 실증적 고찰을 목적으로 작성되었다. 1945년 12월 10일 간행된 『신생』은 사실상 창간호이지만 ‘개간호(改刊號)’라는 이름으로 간행되었는데, 그것은 잡지를 주도한 고석지가 『평론(評論)』이라는 제호의 신문을 같은 해 10월 25일에 창간한 적이 있기 때문이다. 그것을 계승하면서 제주의 문학인들(최길두, 이영복)과 함께 ‘신생사’를 조직하여 간행한 것이 바로 ‘개간호’라는 이름으로 간행된 『신 생』이라는 것이다. 종합지를 표방하고 있는 이 잡지는 해방조선이 새로이 건설되기 위해서 개성·지성·창의가 발휘되는 문화조선을 지향함으로써 문명과 평화에 기여하되, 친일세력의 청산을 강조하면서 지역의 현안이나 행사에도 주목하겠다는 취지로 창간되었다. 『신생』 창간호(개간호)에서는 해방 정국이나 새 조국 건설과 관련되는 정치적, 사회적인 내용을 주로 담고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 시, 한시, 노랫말, 번역소설, 수필 등의 문학적인 글도 수록하고 있다. 따라서 이 책은 해방 공간의 제주사회를 다방면에서 파악할 수 있는 소중한 텍스트임에 틀림없다. 이를 통해 해방 직후 제주에서의 문학 활동에 대한 상당한 보완이 이뤄질 것이요, 제주 출판의 역사를 다시 써야 할 것이며, 4·3 연구에도 기여할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

영문 초록

This paper was written for the purpose of basic and empirical consideration as data related to 『Shinsaeng(New Life)』, known as the first magazine in Jeju Island, was newly discovered. 『Shinsaeng』, published on December 10, 1945, was published under the name of Gaeganho, but it is actually the first issue. Since Ko Seok-ji, who led the magazine, launched the newspaper titled 『Pyongron (Review)』 on October 25 of the same year, “Shinsaengsa”(新生社) was organized and published with Jeju Island's literary people (Choi Gil-doo, Lee Young-bok) with the meaning of inheriting the 『Pyongron』. The magazine, which advocates a comprehensive magazine, was founded with the intention of contributing to civilization and peace by aiming for a cultural Joseon(korea) in which individuality, intelligence, and creativity were exercised in order to build a new homeland, but emphasizing the liquidation of pro-Japanese forces. The first issue of 『Shinsaeng』(republishing issue) contains not only political and social contents related to the liberation political situation and the construction of a new homeland, but also literary writings such as poems, Chinese poems, song lyrics, translation novels, and essays. Therefore, this book must be a valuable text that can grasp the Jeju society of the liberation space in various ways. Through this, significant supplementation of literary activities in Jeju will be made immediately after liberation, the history of Jeju publishing should be rewritten, and it is believed that it will be able to contribute to the April 3 study.
