국문 초록

연구목적 본 연구는 중국 현지 사범대학에서 영어를 전공한 세 명의 학부생이 자신의 미래에 대한 상상과영어 학습에 대한 투자와의 관계를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 학생들은 외국어로서의 영어(EFL)를배웠다. 연구방법 2020년 9월부터 12월까지 한 학기 동안 질적 연구를 수행했다. 연구자들은 집중 독해 (IntensiveReading) 와 구술 영어의 두 가지 주요 과정을 따랐다. 데이터는 교실 관찰, 반구조화 (semi-structured)및 공개 인터뷰 (open interview), 강의 문서 및 학생들의 과제 통해 수집되었다. 2단계의 코딩으로 데이터분석을 진행하였으며, 데이터 triangulation 방법으로 연구의 신뢰성을 확보하였다. 연구결과 연구 결과에 따르면 직업적 정체성 기준으로 봤을 때 상상의 공동체는 (imagined community)가족 배경, 학습 궤적 (learning trajectory), 개인적 성격, 사회적 관습, 읽은 책, 접근할 수 있었던 미디어에의해 구성되었다. 결론 결론은 그들의 상상력은 감정, 시간, 에너지 면에서 영어 학습에 대한 투자에 영향을 미쳤다. 이연구는 EFL 학습자 및 교사들에게 몇 가지 교육학적 의미를 제공하는 것을 목표로 했다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study aims to explore the relationship between three English major undergraduates’ imaginations regarding their futures and their investment in English learning at a local teachers’ university in China. The focal students learned English as a foreign language (EFL). Methods: Qualitative research was conducted during one academic semester from September to December 2020. The researchers followed two major courses, intensive reading and oral English. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured and open interviews, course documents and students artifacts. Data analysis was conducted with two levels of coding and the credibility was ensured with data triangulation. Results: Findings reveal that students’ imagined communities, with their imagined professional identities as the center, were historically constructed along personal English learning trajectories. Conclusion: The study revealed that these imagined communities informed their daily investment in English learning at the university in terms of time, energy, and affection. Based on the data analysis, this study offers some pedagogical implications for more EFL learners and educators both at Chinese universities and beyond.
