국문 초록

In cultivating Hokkaido, the prisoners of the Abashiri Prison and the forced Korean workers were largely sacrificed. Human rights and the minimal standard of living should be guaranteed for even prisoners and foreign workers. However, in conjunction with the situation of the time, they were forced to live a miserable life. The site of the history has now been neatly refurbished and transformed into a tourist place, and it is worth paying attention to the deterioration of historical facts behind it. From this point of view, the tragedy of prisoners of the Abashiri Prison and forced Korean workers due to the cultivation of Hokkaido, were re-examined with a focus on cultural power and Subaltern. As a result, the Abashiri Prison gained cultural powers such as popular movies and museums. The horrors of prisoners and forced Korean workers who became the victims of Hokkaido cultivation would be invisible.

영문 초록

日本社会は歴史の桎梏と共に多様なサバルタンが存在してきたが、北海道の開拓による網走刑務所の囚人と朝鮮人強制徴用者も国家権力の犠牲者として注目すべき対象である。囚人や外国人労働者であっても彼等の人権は尊重すべきであり、最小限の人間らしい生き方は保障されなければならない。しかし、時代的状況と相俟って彼等は悲惨な生活を強いられた。その歴史の現場が、今はきれいに整備されて観光地に変貌したのであるが、その裏面に存在する歴史的事実の変質に対して注目する必要がある。 このような観点から本稿では、北海道の開拓と網走刑務所の囚人、朝鮮人強制徴用者の惨状を文化権力とサバルタンに焦点を合わせて再照明してみた。その結果、網走監獄は人気映画や博物館という文化の力にカムフラージュされ、まかり間違えば、北海道開拓のスケープゴートになった囚人と朝鮮人労働者の惨状が薄れていくことが憂慮される。 文化の力は多大な威力を持っている。しかしその力が歪曲されて否定的に作用されると文化権力になりうる恐れがある。とりわけ社会的弱者であるサバルタンにとって文化権力の副作用は、彼等の痛々しい傷跡を人々の記憶から消してしまう恐ろしい力になりうることを、常に警戒しなければならないだろう。
