국문 초록

本稿では、古代韓日両国で出土した習書木簡を検討した。木簡は高価な紙に比べ周りで入手しやすい特性上、文書行政の補助材料として活用された。特に下級官吏は国の文書行政を支える一つの軸であった。彼らは文書生産時間を短縮するために文字を練習したり、考課評定で高い得点を得るために着実に経典を暗誦した。そのような痕跡が古代の韓日習書木簡にそのまま残っている。 一方、習書木簡には人面を描いた場合がある。木簡を使用した階級が下級官吏であったという点で、これは示唆するところが大きい。東アジアで官吏に進出するためには身言書判が重要な基準であった。外貌が重視されたのである。一部の文献には、俊秀な外貌を持つ官吏の活躍が確認される。下級官吏の目標は高位官僚群に進出することであった。彼らは文書を作成しながら、時には退屈な時間を紛らわせるために絵を描いた。ならば、耳目口鼻がはっきりした外貌は、当時彼らが渴望していた、あるいは似たい顔であった蓋然性が高い。

영문 초록

This paper examines the Shusho wooden letters excavated in both Korea and Japan in ancient times. Wooden letters were utilized as auxiliary materials for document administration because of their easy availability compared to expensive paper. In particular, lower-ranking officials practiced writing to shorten the document production time and recited scriptures steadily to obtain high scores in performance reviews. On the other hand, there are cases in which the Shusho Mokkan depicts human masks. This is significant in that the class of people who used these wooden scrolls were lower-ranking officials. In East Asia, personal appearance was an important criterion for advancement to the rank of official. In some documents, we can see the activities of officials with excellent appearance. The goal of lower-ranking officials was to advance to the higher ranks of the bureaucracy. Then, it is highly probable that the external appearance with clear ears, eyes, mouth, and nose was the face they desired or wanted to resemble at that time.
