국문 초록

デスは日本語のコピュラの一つとして広く認知されており、話し言葉や書き言葉に関わらず日常的な言語活動において文の表層に頻繁に現れる要素である。デスはコピュラとして文の述部に置かれ、主概念と賓概念を結びつける役割がその標準的な用法として挙げられるが、会話文を中心に述部以外の位置、すなわちコピュラとしての機能があるとは認められない位置に現れる非標準的なデスも見られる。本稿はそれらの非標準的なデスが多く見られる国会会議における発話をデータとし、デスの非標準用法が文中に現れる位置、そしてその出現の要因を明らかにすることを目的とする。データ分析の結果、国会会議におけるデスの非標準用法は対人のモダリティを示す標識と多く共起し、対人のモダリティによって誘発される現象であるということがわかった。このことから、本稿はデスの非標準用法は対人モダリティと共起することにより対人のモダリティによって生じる親近性を解消する機能があるということを指摘する。

영문 초록

The aim of this paper is to identify non-canonical usages of desu in the discourse of Japan’s National Diet session, and also to examine their functions. Desu is widely known as one of the copulas in contemporary Japanese. It appears frequently on the surface of sentences, regardless of spoken or written discourse. In its canonical use, desu is placed in the predicate of a sentence as a copula, and its function is to link the subject and the predicate. However, there are the cases in which desu appears in positions other than the predicate, thus they do not function as a copula. The current study focuses on those non-canonical usages of desu. The analysis of the data revealed that the non-canonical usages of desu often co-occur with discourse particles that carry modality information. Based on the findings the current study argues that the non-canonical use of desu is a phenomenon caused by the addition of modality-carrying discourse particles in the sentence. The study further argues that the function of non-canonical use of desu is to avoid a sense of intimacy that is caused by the addition of modality carrying discourse particles.
