사전 정보의 기억이 전환 과제 수행에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

과제와 관련된 사전 정보 제시는 과제 전환 준비를 돕지만 이러한 정보를 작업 기억에 유지하는 것은 작업 기억 부하를 일으키기도 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 사전 정보의 개수를 조절했을 때 사전 정보를 작업 기억에 유지하는 것이 과제 전환 수행에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것이다. 구체적으로 연구 1과 2에서는 기억할 사전 정보의 개수를 2개로, 연구 3에서는 4개로 조작하였으며, 사전 정보가 제시되지 않는 조건, 수행 시 정보가 제시되어 사전 정보를 선택적으로 기억할 수 있는 조건, 그리고 사전 정보를 기억해야 하는 조건을 비교하였다. 2개의 사전 정보를 제시한 연구 1과 연구 2 모두 전환 여부와 관계없이 사전 정보를 기억하는 것이 과제 전환 수행에 도움을 주었다. 연구 1에서는 사전 정보를 제시할 때 조건을 구분할 수 없어 조건 간 차이가 나타나지 않았으나, 연구 2에서 이를 보완하여 사전 정보를 선택적으로 기억할 수 있는 조건과 사전 정보를 반드시 기억해야 하는 조건 간의 차이를 확인하였다. 4개의 사전 정보를 제시한 연구 3 역시 사전 정보를 기억하는 것이 과제 전환 수행에 도움을 주었으나, 동일한 설계 방식에 사전 정보의 개수만 다르게 제시한 연구 2와 연구 3을 비교했을 때, 2개의 사전 정보를 기억할 때에 비해 4개의 사전 정보를 제시한 경우의 반응시간이 느려졌다. 특히 동일한 사전 정보를 제시하더라도 정보를 반드시 기억해야 하는 조건에서만 개수에 따른 반응시간 차이가 나타났는데 이는 단순히 정보를 많이 제시하는 것이 아니라 이를 기억하게 하는 것이 부하를 일으킴을 의미한다.

영문 초록

Prior information about the task helps prepare the task. However, maintaining such information potentially increases the working memory load, and therefore it is possible to degrade the task performance. This study investigated the effect of maintaining task information on working memory on task switching performance. In Experiment 1 and Experiment 2, information types (no prior information before task, prior information before task+task cue during task, prior information before task but no task cue during task) and task transition (repetition, switching) were manipulated. Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 showed that the performance of the conditions with prior information, regardless of task transition, were better than the condition without prior information. In Experiment 3, the amount of the prior information was increased to 4 items. As a result, conditions with prior information still had faster reaction times than the condition without prior information. Interestingly, when comparing two studies(Experiment 2 and Experiment 3) that used the same block design method but only had different numbers of prior information, the reaction time was slower when presenting 4 items than when presenting 2 items. In particular, since the effect of the number of prior information only appeared in memory conditions, it shows that remembering it rather than presenting a lot of prior information hinders the performance of the task switching.
