국문 초록

이 연구는 1960-70년대 영화화된 세 편의 이순신 텍스트를 중심으로 정치체제가 문화담론 전략을 통해 지배이념을 강화해 가는 그 수행적 과정을 분석하고자 하였다. 분석의 결과, 이순신은 체제이념을 담지하는 상징자본의 대표적 표상으로 작동하였던바, 60년대 독재체제 성립기의 영화에서는 조국을 수호하는 정의로운 지도자의 상이 중심적으로 부각되며 70년대 초의 영화에서는 위태로운 국제정세 가운데 국가의 위기 상황이 강조되고 70년 후반의 영화에서는 군민의 대동단결을 촉구하는 서사가 전개되는 과정들을 보여준다. 문화텍스트로서의 역사 소재 영상서사의 스토리텔링 양상의 관점에서 볼 때, 이 영화들은 각기 이순신의 성웅적 면모를 형상화하면서도 그것이 초점화되는 특성들의 차이점을 보여준다. 또한 이순신은 다른 국가적 영웅들이 담론화되는 방식과의 차별성을 지니고 있는바, 이순신은 을지문덕이나 화랑보다 더 근대적인 인물을 표상할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 입지전적 성장과정을 드러내는 인물화가 용이하며 국민총화라는 시대적 이념을 충실히 구조화할 수 있는 서사적 위상이 확보될 수 있는 위치에 놓여 있었다. 임진왜란을 배경으로 하여 형상화되는 무능한 조선왕정과 문인들의 당쟁은 민주주의의 비효율성을 국론분열과 외침의 요인으로 이해하게 하고 만든다. 그리고 이와 대조적인 위치에서 민족국가가 요구하는 공동체적 가치를 한 인물을 통해 서사화함으로써 애국과 충정의 관념을 정당화할 뿐만 아니라 전쟁을 통해 유비되는 국가적 위기상황을 항시적 요인으로 구성함에 따라 독재체제를 국가적 위기상황에 대한 극복방식으로 수용하도록 유인한다. 이로부터 결론되는 것은 국가적 지원을 통해 이루어지는 영화사업이 체제이념을 형상화하는 방식은 단순히 표층적으로 이념을 강제하고 훈육하는 차원에서 이루어지는 것이 아니라 서사적 차원들 속에서 그 정당화 기제를 구성해냄으로써 그 타당성을 획득하게 된다는 점이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to analyze the executive process of a political system reinforcing its ruling ideology through a cultural discourse strategy with a focus on the three texts about Admiral Yi Sun-shin, which were made into movies in the 1960s and 1970s. As Admiral Yi served as a representative symbol of symbolic capital reflecting the ideology of a system, the movies during the dictatorial system mainly portrayed him as a righteous leader protecting the nation. In the movies made in the early 1970s, there was an emphasis on the national crisis situation amidst adverse international circumstances. However, in the movies made in the late 1970s, the process of developing a narrative calling for the unity of military and people depicted differences among the movies in the features to embody and focus on Admiral Yi s aspects as a sacred hero. Furthermore, Admiral Yi had differentiating features from other national heroes in the way of discourse. He was able to represent more modern figures than Euljimundeok and Hwarangs, made it easy to depict the growth process of a self-made man, and held a position to completely secure the narrative status of structuralizing the idea of national consensus of the times. The incompetent royal regime of Joseon and the party strife among the literary figures embodied against the background of Imjinwaeran enabled viewers to understand the inefficiency of democracy as a factor of divided nation and foreign invasion. The narratives of a figure with a community value requested from a democratic nation in an opposite position not only justified the ideas of patriotism and loyalty, but also defined a national crisis analogous to war as a constant factor, inducing viewers to accept the dictatorial system as a means of overcoming a national crisis. These findings imply that the government-supported movie industry embodies the ideology of the ruling system by establishing a justification mechanism in the narrative dimensions and acquiring its validation rather than simply forcing the ideology upon people on the surface layer and thereby disciplining them.
