만요(漫謠)가사와 멜로디의 상관성 분석

국문 초록

일본강점기 한국 대중음악의 곡종(曲種) 중 하나인 만요(漫謠)의 가사와 멜로디의 상관관계에 대해 고찰하고자 한다. 만요는 가사를 중심으로 곡종이 분류되어 있어 그 특징을 가사에서 찾을 수 있다는 선행연구가 있다. 그러한 선행연구를 기초로 하여 더 나아가 만요의 가사와 멜로디의 상관관계에 대해 분석하였다. 만요의 가사와 멜로디의 상관관계에 대한 분석으로 크게 세 가지의 표현으로 나누고, 그 표현 안에서 세부적인 특징으로 나눌 수 있었다. 세 가지의 표현은 외적인 모습, 당대의 모습(모던한 모습, 서민적인 모습, 허황된 모습), 기타 표현의 사용(외래어 사용, 내레이션과 추임새의 사용, 의성어와 의태어의 사용)으로 나눌 수 있었다. 이러한 분석을 통해 만요의 멜로디는 가사에 대한 충분한 고려가 있었다는 점, 멜로디에서도 가사의 역할을 보조하듯 표현 하나하나에 맞춰 이루어져 있다는 점으로 만요는 가사에만 집중된 것이 아닌 멜로디와의 상관관계가 나타나고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 만요의 음악적 연구의 부족함을 본 연구를 통해 그 가능성을 제시하고 싶다.

영문 초록

This paper intends to consider the correlation between the lyrics and melody of Manyo, a popular Korean music style during the Japanese colonial era. Since Manyo songs are categorized based on the lyrics, there is previous research showing that characteristics of the songs can be identified from the lyrics. Based on such previous research, we further analyzed the correlation between the lyrics and the melody of Manyo. The analysis is generally divided into three kinds of expression, and expression can be further divided into specific features. The three types of expression can be divided into external characteristics, contemporary characteristics (modern, folk-like, and non-sensical characteristics), and other expression uses (use of foreign language, narration and chu-imsae, and onomatopoeia and mimetic words). Through such an analysis, it was found that Manyo not only centered on the lyrics but also showed a correlation with the melody based on the fact that the melody of Manyo had sufficient consideration for the lyrics and that the melody was constructed according to each expression so as to assist the role of the lyrics. Through this study, we would like to propose the possibility of musical research of Manyo, despite the lack of such research.
