개발도상국의 외국인 직접투자 결정요인 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 1970년부터 2009년까지 개발도상국 76개국의 패널자료를 사용하여 외국인 직접투자 유입의 결정요인을 분석하였다. 이때 주요 설명변수로는 경제이론이 제시하는 바에 따라 무역개방도, 사회기반시설, 투자수익률, 정부지출비중, 인플레이션율, 금융심화도, 경제성장률, 정치적 불안정성 등을 고려하였고 지역별 차이점을 살피기 위하여 아프리카, 아시아, 라틴 아메리카 지역으로 구분하여 분석하였다. 추정방법으로는 Pooled OLS 모형과 고정효과 모형, 임의효과 모형을 적용하였고 실증분석 후 모형의 적합성을 검정하기 위해 Hausman 검정을 시행하였다. 분석결과, 무역개방도와 사회기반시설 발전정도의 추정계수가 양(+)의 값을 갖는 것으로 나타나 무역이 활발하고, 사회기반시설이 확충되어 있을수록 개발도상국에 대한 외국인 직접투자가 증가하는 것으로 분석되었고, 외국인 직접투자 결정요인에서 지역별 차이점을 매우 제한적으로 나타났다. 정부 지출과 정치적 안정성의 추정계수가 음(-)의 값을 갖고 경제성장률의 추정계수가 양(+)의 값을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 Pooled OLS와 고정효과모형와 임의효과모형간의 추정결과가 차이점을 보여 추정시 이에 적합한 방법을 선정하여 추정하는 것이 매우 중요하다는 것을 인식하게 되었다.

영문 초록

We try to find the determinants of foreign direct investment of developing countries by applying the data of 76 countries from 1970 to 2009. We build estimation equation by choosing explanatory variables of trade openness, social infra structure, investment return rate, inflation rate, financial deepness, economic growth rate and the degree of political stability as suggested by economic theory. For this purpose, we use panel estimation method of fixed effect model and random effect model. From these estimations, we find that trade openness and the degree of social infra structure have a positive effect on the foreign direct investment. In addition, geographic difference only gives an effect on it by a limited amount. Furthermore, estimated coefficient on political instability is negative while that of economic growth rate is positive. Finally, we find that there are some differences in the estimated coefficient in the pooled OLS, random effect model and fixed effect model, so that we should be very cautious to choose the estimation method in this estimation.
