대학생용 수학 불안 평가 척도의 개발 및 타당화 연구

국문 초록

수학 불안은 수학 학습을 방해하고 수학 관련 활동이나 업무를 회피하게 하는 역기능적 영향을 미친다. 따라서 수학 불안을 진단하고 이를 완화하고 극복하기 위한 교육적 방안을 모색하기 위해서는 수학 불안의 요인을 이해하는 것이 선행되어야 한다. 기존 연구들은 주로 고등학교 시기까지의 학생들이 경험하는 수학 불안의 하위 요인을 규명하였다. 그러나 대학생 시기의 수학불안은 상급 학위 과정과 직업의 선택에 중요한 영향을 미칠 수 있으므로 이에 대한 이해와 진단은 매우 중요하다. 본 연구의 목표는 대학생의 수학 불안을 측정하는 도구를 개발하고 타당성을 검증하는 것이었다. 본 연구는 선행연구에서 고려되었던 학습 및 시험 불안 요인과 함께 졸업 후 진로 선택, 경제활동 등과 관련한 대학생의 수학 불안을 고려하여 요인을 구성하였다. 척도 개발을 위해 기초 문항 분석, 탐색적 요인분석, 신뢰도 분석 및 확인적 요인분석을 실시하여 모형의 신뢰도와 타당도를 검증하였다. 대학생의 수학 불안에 대한 구인 타당도를 검증한 결과 20문항으로 구성된 4요인 모형이 도출되었으며 각 요인은 수학의 추상성 및 언어 구조, 수학 자신감 결여, 평가 불안, 학습 불안으로 확인되었다. 또한 여자보다 남자 대학생이, 인문ㆍ사회계열학생들보다 공학ㆍ자연과학 계열 학생들의 수학 불안 수준이 더 낮았다. 본 연구는 국내 대학생의 수학 불안 측정도구가 부재한 상황에서 대학생의 수학 불안에 관련한 요인 및 수학 불안의 해결 방안 탐색 등의 연구에 사용될 수 있는 타당화된 도구를 제시하였다는 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Mathematics anxiety (MA) has a negative impact on mathematical learning. In order to develop diagnostic tools and intervention programs for MA, we first need to understand the factors underlying MA. Previous MA studies conducted in South Korea only dealt with subdomains of MA measured from elementary to high school students. However, considering that the context in which college students experience MA differs from younger students, it is important to include measurements of MA in relation to decisions about jobs, higher degrees or personal finance. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and validate a MA rating scale for Korean college students. To develop this scale, we included previously proposed factors of MA such as test or learning anxiety, along with additional factors tailored to college students. From an initial survey measuring diverse aspects of MA, 4 main factors and 20 items were derived by an exploratory factor analysis and a reliability analysis. Next, we examined the validity of this scale by conducting a confirmatory factor analysis. The factors were properties of math: abstraction and language, lack of confidence in math, math test anxiety and math learning anxiety. Female students had higher MA than males. Participants majoring in humanities and social sciences showed greater MA than those majoring in engineering and natural sciences. This research provides the first validated scale of MA that can be administered to Korean college students.
