국문 초록

본 연구에서는 2008년부터 2011년의 유가증권 상장법인을 대상으로 기업의 현금보유가 기업가치에 미치는 영향과, 이러한 관계가 기업지배구조에 따라 달라지는지를 분석하였다. 본 분석에서는 기업지배구조를 측정하는 대용변수로 공정거래위원회에서 제공하는 대규모 기업집단 변수를 사용하였다. 우리나라의 기업의 특성을 제대로 반영하기 위해서는 우리나라 기업의 발전토대가 되었으며 지금도 유지되고 있는 재벌체제를 고려해야 할 필요성이 있기 때문이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기업지배구조를 측정하는 변수로서 대규모 기업집단(재벌)을 사용하여 현금보유가 기업가치에 미치는 영향, 그리고 기업지배구조가 현금보유와 기업가치에 미치는 영향에 대하여 분석 하고자 한다. 분석결과, 기업의 현금보유는 기업가치에 유의한 양(+)의 영향을 미쳤으나, 대규모 기업집단과 현금의 상호작용항은 영향력을 미치지 못했다. 현금보유는 기업의 가치에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 잠재적 요인이지만, 대규모기업집단 여부에 상관없이 우리나라 기업의 가치를 증가시킴을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the relation between cash holdings and firm value focusing on chaebol as proxy of corporate governance structure. The objective of this study is that (1) What is the relationship between cash holdings and firm value?, (2) Does the corporate governance structure affect the relationship between cash holdings and firm value? The sample of this study includes companies listed on Korea stock market that reported annual financial statement and excluding financial firms over period from 2008 to 2011. Finally, using the 1.865 firm-year data. To empirically evaluate each of hypothesis, sample construction started with observations from KIS-VALUE database. The results of this study is as follows : (1) There is positive relation between cash holdings and firm value. (2) The relationship of (1) isn’t changed by considering the corporate governance structure especially chaebol. The findings suggest that cash holdings have positive effects on firm value irrespective of chaebol.
