Association between Sarcopenia and Cardiovascular Disease : Based on Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) 2008-2011

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether sarcopenia is associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) by age groups using data from the Korea national health and nutrition examination survey. The total number of subjects in this analysis was 12,127 subjects. The overall prevalence of sarcopenia was 29.1% in the aged 40-64 years group and 42.3% in the older than 65 years group. In the 40-64 years group, after adjustment for socio-demographic factors, health behavior factors and dietary factors, the OR for having CVD was 1.928 (95% CI=1.287-2.862) in the obese sarcopenia group, compared with the non-obese non-sarcopenia group. In the older than 65 years group, after adjustment for socio-demographic factors, the ORs for having CVD were 1.952 (95% CI=1.404-2.727) in the non-obese sarcopenia group, 2.275 (95% CI=1.668-3.102) in the obese sarcopenia group, compared with the non-obese non-sarcopenia group. It is necessary to develop public health programs for preventing and early detecting sarcopenia to decrease the risk of CVD from the middle aged period.
