자아고갈과 폭식수준이 충동행동에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 자아고갈이 폭식수준에 따라 충동행동에 미치는 영향을 확인하였다. 557명의 참가자를 폭식척도와 한국판 식사태도 검사를 기준으로 폭식수준이 낮은 집단(50명)과 폭식수준이 높은 집단(50명)으로 나누어 인지적 과부하가 없는 과제와 인지적 과부하로 자기통제력을 낮춰 인지적 자원을 고갈시키는 자아고갈 과제에 무선할당하여 과제를 수행하였다. 반응억제능력은 음식단서와 중립단서가 제시되는 멈춤 신호과제를 실시하여 측정되었으며, 자아고갈 여부의 측정은 인지적 과부하 과제 후 자아고갈에 대한 리커트형 자기보고식 척도와 악력기의 악력으로 측정되었다. 실험 결과, 인지적 과부하가 없는 과제에서는 집단 간 차이가 유의미하지 않았으나, 인지적 과부하로 자기통제를 감소시키는 자아고갈과제에서는 폭식수준이 낮은 집단이 폭식수준이 높은 집단보다 음식단서에 대한 충동반응을 억제하는데 오랜 시간이 걸려, 자아고갈이 폭식수준이 높은 집단보다 폭식수준이 낮은 집단의 음식단서에 대한 충동행동에 영향을 미쳤다. 이는 폭식수준이 낮은 집단이 폭식수준이 높은 집단보다 동일한 자아고갈과제 수행에서 자기통제와 관련된 인지적 자원을 더 많이 사용하여 충동행동을 증가시킨 것으로 보인다.

영문 초록

The goal of this study is to identify the effect of ego-depletion on impulsive behavior according to the level of binge eating. 100 participants were categorized into two groups (high and low binge group) by using binge eating scale and the Korean version of eating attitude test-26. Participants were randomly assigned to two different tasks: Ego-depletion task of depleting cognitive resources by lowering self-control through cognitive overload; non-depletion task without cognitive overload. Impulsive behavior of participants was measured by a computerized stop signal task that presented object cues and food cues. The results showed no significant difference between the groups in the non-depletion task but low binge group took longer time to suppress impulsive response to food cues than high binge group in ego-depletion task, indicating that the task affected the impulsive behavior of low binge group on food cues more than high binge group. These results could demonstrate that low binge group would increase the impulsive behaviors when they consume more cognitive resources related to self-control than high binge group.
