국문 초록

본 연구는 R&D 투자가 기업의 산출물에 미치는 영향을 분석하고자 한다. 또한 선도기업 및 후발기업 상황이 R&D 투자와 산출물의 관련성에 조절효과로 작용하는가를 실증 분석하고자 한다. 이러한 관련성을 분석하기 위해 Cobb-Douglas 생산함수를 참조하여 측정모델을 채택하였으며, R&D 투자는 R&D 집중도로, 산출물은 매출액으로 측정하였다. 연구모델 분석을 위해 6년에 걸친 1,501개의 제조 기업에 대한 정보를 이용하였다. 매출액은 자본, 노동, 중간재이외에 R&D 집중도에 의해 영향을 받을 수 있기 때문에 R&D 집중도의 영향이 매출액에 미치는 영향을 가설 1로 설정하였으며, 가설 2에서는 이러한 연구모형에서 선도기업 및 후발기업의 조절효과를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구가설1의 결과, R&D 집중도와 매출액 간에 유의한 양(+)의 관련성을 나타내었다. 이러한 결과는 기업의 매출액 증대와 관련된 전통적 생산요소인 노동, 자본 및 중간재 이외에 R&D 투자 효과가 존재함을 시사한다. 연구가설2의 결과, R&D 집중도와 매출액 증대 관계에서 해당 산업의 선도 기업이 후발기업보다 좀 더 유의적 영향을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 산업 내 선도 기업이 후발기업보다 R&D 투자를 기업성과로 연결시키는 효율성 측면에서 경쟁적 이점이 있음을 시사한다. 즉, 선도 기업이 후발 기업에 비해 R&D 투자의 효율성이 높음을 의미한다.

영문 초록

This study presents novel empirical evidence on the effect of R&D investment on the output, as well as on the moderation effect of first-mover or follower in enhancing the likelihood of introducing productivity growth in the firm. This study tries to measure the moderation effect of first-mover or follower firm in the relationship of R&D investment and the output. In order to assess the effect of R&D investment on the output, this paper estimates a Cobb-Douglas production in long differences, augmented with intermediary products, capital and labor. Data were obtained from 1,501 manufacturing firms and the firm’s information was collected over six years (2010-2015). The coefficient of intermediary products, capital and labor was statistically significant at the 1% level. There was a positive, statistically significant and sizeable effect of R&D investment on output when included in a standard Cobb Douglas production function. This implies that there may be an important role for R&D investment in a firms’ productivity process. The regression results show the effect of first-mover in the relationship between R&D investment and output. The coefficient of R&D investment was statistically significant at the 1% level.
