공강을 활용한 영어학습 프로그램의 학습경험에 관한 사례연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생의 자투리 시간인 공강을 활용한 영어학습 프로그램이 방과 후 학습의 연장선에서 효율성이 있는지를 살펴본 사례연구이다. 이를 위해 프로그램 참 여 학습자들의 학습경험을 심층적으로 분석하였다. 연구결과, 학습자들은 지인의 추 천과 토익성적 향상이라는 수강동기를 가지고 성실히 수업에 참여하려고 노력하였 다. 교수자 학습자 간 상호작용의 제약을 경험하였으나 교수자의 교수설계와 수업 진행에 대해서는 대체로 만족스러운 학습경험을 하였다. 학습자들은 공강을 활용한 프로그램의 가장 큰 장점을 자투리 시간활용과 영어학습을 동시에 할 수 있는 것으 로 인식하고 있었다. 또한 학습자들은 영어점수의 향상과 학습태도의 변화에 상당히 만족하였으며, 보다 다양한 강좌개설과 강좌시간의 확충을 희망하였다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 수업몰입을 높이고 효율적인 출석관리를 위해 수업전반 40분을 학습내용 전달에, 수업후반 10분을 출석관리나 질의응답에 초점을 맞추어 수업운영계획을 할 것, 그리고 교수자 학습자 간 상호작용의 제약은 수업 외 상호 커뮤니케이션 활동으 로 해결할 것을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

The present study investigated students’ English learning experiences in English learning program utilizing the breaks between classes in college. The study aimed to explore whether the program would settle down as one of the after-school education programs as well as how students’ experiences influenced their English proficiency. Document analyses, classroom observation journals, and interviews with ten participants were included in the case study. The main findings of the study are as follows. The learners generally showed highly positive satisfaction especially on instructional design, improvement in TOEIC score, and change in attitudes towards English learning. “What makes the program so great is that college students can make better use of their spare breaks between classes as well as study TOEIC”, most participants said. In addition, they hoped more courses and classes would be open. However, students experienced limits and restrictions on interaction between students and teachers in class. They also experienced noise resulted from some students’ preparation for next class right before the end of the class. This caused both teachers and students to hinder the class flow. On the basis of the results of the study, it is believed that as one of after-school programs, the English learning program utilizing the breaks between classes can provide college students with the chance to improve their English proficiency and help them manage their breaks between classes effectively.
