국문 초록

본 연구는 서울시 소재 한 사립대학 영어교육과에 재학 중인 예비 영어교사의 학 습자 측면에 중점을 두고 이들의 영어 학습 동기 및 태도를 조사하였다. 영어교육과 학생들의 영어 학습 동기와 태도에서 어떠한 요인들이 주요하게 작용하고 이 요인 들이 영어 학습에서 나타나는 동기화된 행동(motivated behavior)에는 어떠한 영향 을 미치는지를 분석하는 것이 본 연구의 초점이었다. 총 130명의 학생들이 참여한 설문조사 자료를 분석한 결과, 이상적 제 2언어 자아와 영어 사용자에 대한 긍정적 태도가 이들의 영어 학습에서 가장 우세한 동기와 태도 요인으로 나타났다. 동기화 된 행동과의 관련성에 대해서는, 모든 태도 요인과 이상적 제 2언어 자아가 정적(+) 상관관계를 나타내었다. 또한 영어 학습에 대한 긍정적 태도와 영어 사용자에 대한 긍정적 태도가 동기화된 행동에 유의미한 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 예비 영어교사의 영어 학습에서 이상적 제 2언어 자아와 영어 사용자에 대한 긍정적 태도가 우세한 역할을 하는 것과 관련하여 제언을 제시 하였다.

영문 초록

This study investigated pre-service English teachers in the department of English education at a private university located in Seoul. The focus of the study was on finding out the dominant factors in their English learning motivation and attitudes, and how these factors influence their motivated behavior in English learning. A total of 130 undergraduate students majoring in English education participated in a questionnaire survey. The results indicated that the ideal L2 self and positive attitudes toward English speakers were the most dominant factors in the pre-service teachers’ motivation and attitudes related to English learning. Also, the ideal L2 self and positive attitudes toward English speakers showed a relatively high correlation with each other. In terms of the relationship with motivated behavior, all of the attitudinal factors and the ideal L2 self were significantly correlated with motivated behavior. Positive attitudes toward English learning and positive attitudes toward English speakers had significant explanatory power for motivated behavior, with the former exhibiting the most influential effect. Critical implications were provided with regard to the influential roles of the ideal L2 self and positive attitudes toward English speakers in pre-service teachers’ English learning.
