수학·과학수업 교실문화 분석연구의 신뢰도 검증방법에 대한 고찰:

국문 초록

수학·과학 교육 연구는 순수이론연구와 순수응용연구의 성격을 모두 가진 응용으 로부터의 이론 연구로 학교 교실에서 이루어지는 수학·과학 수업은 수학·과학 교육 연구대상의 핵심이라고 할 수 있으며 수업에서 나타나는 교실문화를 적절한 연구 방법으로 분석하는 것은 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 무엇보다 중요하다. 수업을 분 석하는 연구방법은 1990년대 중반 이후 양적 연구방법에서 질적 연구방법으로 전환 한 바 있으며 최근에는 상황학습론과 실행공동체 이론을 바탕으로 교실 수업을 하 나의 문화로 보고 그 문화를 해석하고자 하는 시도가 생겨났다. 이처럼 수업을 해석 하는 관점이 복잡해지고 다양해지면서, 복합적인 상호작용이 일어나는 교실문화를 분석하는 연구를 위한 연구방법을 고찰해 볼 필요성이 제기되고 있다. 특히 연구방 법의 신뢰도 검증은 그 연구의 재현가능성을 보장하는 것으로 반드시 이루어져야 한다. 선행 연구 분석 결과 수학·과학 수업을 분석한 대부분의 연구가 질적 사례 연 구이고, 신뢰도 검증 여부에 대해 전혀 언급이 없는 논문의 수가 더 많았고, 신뢰도 를 검증했더라도 각 연구마다 제각각의 검증 방법을 선택하였다. 특히 연구자의 신 뢰도 검증은 일어나지 않은 것으로 보인다. 탐구 지향 수업 분석 프로토콜을 사용하 여 교실문화를 분석할 때 연구자의 신뢰도를 높이는 연구 방법 사례를 소개한다.

영문 초록

Because they have their origins in basic and applied research, math and science education research have been heavily influenced both theoretically and methodologically. Today, understanding teacher and student interactions in math and science classes are important areas of classroom-based research. And while the research methodologies have become progressively more qualitative in nature, researchers still need appropriate tools to ensure effective research. As researchers attempt to apply more complex views of learning as lenses for interpreting classroom interactions (such as situated learning theory and community of practice), researchers must also devise more robust methods of analysis. Especially, methods for ensuring reliability need to be considered since this affects the reproducibility of the research. In this paper, we conducted a review of qualitative research studies published over the last 15 years in two of the top math and science education journals in Korea and found most of the studies failed to mention any method for ensuring reliability for data analysis. In cases where reliability was discussed, a variety of methods were used and little description of the process was provided. This was especially true with regards to establishing inter-rater reliability for multiple researchers. Building from our analysis of these papers, we describe a method used for verifying inter-rater reliability for a classroom observational protocol called, Reformed Teaching Observation Protocol (RTOP). After describing the process, we discuss some challenges to establishing reliability among multiple raters, especially when adapting instruments for use that have been developed in other languages and cultural contexts. We conclude with a discussion about the need for establishing more rigorous methods for ensuring reliability and dependability for qualitative studies involving multiple researchers. We offer suggestions and implications for the Korean math and science education research communities.
