국문 초록

이 연구는 일반고 2학년생을 대상으로 사회경제적 지위, 독자적 학습, 사교육이 수학 학습 태도와 성취도와 맺는 구조적 관계를 <한국교육종단연구>의 1차, 5차 연 도 자료와 구조방정식모형을 통해 분석하였는데, 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫 째, 사회경제적 지위는 독자적 학습, 사교육, 수학 성취도에 의미 있는 영향을 미치 고, 독자적 학습은 수학 학습 태도와 성취도에 의미 있는 영향을 미친다. 사교육은 수학 학습 태도와 성취도에 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타는데, 이는 한국의 많 은 중고등학생들이 받고 있는 사교육의 효과에 의문을 던지는 결과라고 할 수 있다. 이에 비해 사회경제적 지위와 독자적 학습의 영향은 상당히 뚜렷하게 나타난다. 사 회경제적 지위의 영향이 뚜렷하다는 점은 수학 학습 태도와 성취도에 미치는 사회 구조적 영향력이 고착화되고 있음을 시사한다. 하지만 사교육과는 달리 독자적 학습 의 영향력이 뚜렷하다는 점은 학생들의 학습 양태에 따라 수학 학습 태도와 성취도 가 달라질 수 있음을 함축한다. 둘째, 수학 학습에 작용하는 성별 차이를 밝히기 위 해 다집단 구조방정식모형 분석을 실시한 결과, 독자적 학습이 수학 성취도에 미치 는 영향이 남학생 집단에서 더 큰 것으로 나타난다. 이러한 결과는 독자적 학습을 통해 학생들의 수학 성취도를 향상시키고자 할 때는, 이러한 성별 차이를 고려하는 것이 필요함을 함축한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed the structural influences of socioeconomic status (SES) and study method on attitude toward and achievement in mathematics among general high school students using the first and fifth waves of the Korean Education Longitudinal Study dataset and structural equation modeling. The results are as follows. First, SES influences self-study, private education, and achievement in mathematics, and self-study influences attitude toward and achievement in mathematics. The fact that private education does not influence attitude toward and achievement in mathematics calls into question the effectiveness of wide-spread private education among high school students. By contrast, the influences of SES and self-study are quite noticeable. These results imply that the influences of social structure are being entrenched. But they also imply that attitude toward and achievement in mathematics can be changed through students’ study methods. Second, the results of multigroup structural equation modeling to investigate the differences in mathematics learning by gender show that the influences of self-study on achievement in mathematics are stronger among male students. These results suggest that the differences by gender need to be taken into account when one tries to improve achievement in mathematics through self-study.
