국문 초록

本稿は韓·日語の対照的な観点から反語文の情報構造について考察したものである。その主な結果は次の通りである。 まず、典型的な反語文では有題文から無題文へ情報構造の置換が行われ、<全体焦点化>で強調的な効果をもたらす。しかし、非典型的な反語文では通常の疑問文的な側面をも保持しているので、<全体焦点化>が必ずしも義務的ではない。 次に、韓国語では同語反復による「떨긴 누가 떨어」「춥긴 뭐가 추워」などのような構文的なパタンとして反語文が認められるものがある。この場合は<全体焦点化>が行われず、文法的な条件が優先される。 最後に、韓国語で<全体焦点化>が行われないもう一つの場合は一種のとりたて表現である「야(ya)」が用いられる場合である。この構文では「야(ya)」の前の部分である旧情報の主題をとりたてるので、結果的には<全体焦点化>された反語文と同様な働きをするように考えられる。

영문 초록

The present article explores the information structure of rhetorical questions in Korean-Japanese comparative perspective. Our main results are summed up as follows. Firstly, in typical instances of rhetorical questions, the information structure of thematic sentence is converted into the information structure of non-thematic sentence, with the effect of engendering “sentential focus.” On the other hand, in non-typical instances of rhetorical questions where a standard interrogative meaning still somehow persists, “sentential focus” does not necessarily emerge. Secondly, Korean possesses a constructional type of rhetorical question that involves tautologies such as “떨긴누가떨어” and “춥긴뭐가추워.” In these cases, “sentential focus” does not arise, and grammatical conditions are operative on a preferential basis. Finally, Korean displays another case in which “sentential focus” is absent, namely sentences involving a type of focus particle, ya (야). In this construction, we contend that ya puts into focus its preceding element which expresses a topic or old information and as a result, the information structure of this construction is tantamount to the information structure of rhetorical questions with “sentential focus.”
