『삼국유사』 해탈설화에 나타난 하층민의 형상

국문 초록

본고는 『삼국유사』 소재 설화 여섯 편을 통해 하층민이 어떻게 형상화되고 있는가에 대해 논의하려는 목적으로 작성된 것이다. 하층인의 형상을 살피기 위해 먼저 화자의 신분과 갈등 상황을 점검해 보았다. 갈등 상황은 빈부의 갈등, 신분의 갈등, 현실과 이상의 갈등으로 나타난다. 이러한 갈등 양상이 드러나는 것은 인물의 형상화 방법과 연관이 있다. 일연은 인물의 형상화 방법으로 목소리, 외모, 행동, 주변 환경을 입체화의 원리에 따라 구성요소별로 제시하였다. 이를 통해 드러난 히층인의 모습은 적극적이고 반항적인 모습, 당당하고 상층민보다 더 우월한 능력을 지닌 모습, 현실의 삶보다는 이상적 삶을 추구하는 모습 등이다. 현실적으로 무력한 하층민에 대해 일연은 다소 이상적인 모습으로 하층민을 형상화하였다. 이는 일연의 사회의식과 관련이 있다. 『삼국유사』의 하층민 해탈설화는 각박한 삶의 현장을 보여주면서도 이를 초월하는 이상세계를 보여주고자 하였다. 이러한 사회의식으로 인해 하층민 해탈설화에서는 이념 서사가 인물 서사를 압박하는 형국이 되었을 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 인물 서사에서 하층민의 형상이 발랄하게 살아나는 것이 하층민 해탈설화의 특징이라 할만하다.

영문 초록

This study is to inquire into how the lower class people were shaped in the six nirvana tales of Samkukyusa. In order to attain the goal of this study, it is necessary to check out the social status and the conflict situations of the speaker. In case of the conflict situations, the conflicts were shown mixedly due to the conflict in the difference of social status, the conflict between the rich and the poor, and the conflict between ideal and reality, which is related with the shaping method of character. The writer, Ilyeon, shaped up the characters by the ingredients such as voice, appearance, behavior, environment, according to a three-dimensional way. The lower class people were characterized as an active, confident and rebellious person, a person with a superior ability than a higher class people, a person who pursues an ideal life than a present life. Ilyeon shaped up the helpless lower class people as an ideal character more or less, which is related with his social consciousness. The nirvana tales showed a tough situation of life and also tried to show an ideal world which transcends it, which perhaps leads to a factor that ideological narrative presses character narrative. However, the nirvana tales of lower class people features the vividness of lower class people in character narrative.
