국문 초록

TV드라마의 공간은 물질적이고 불균등적이며 정치적으로 구성되기 때문에 현실 공간에 대한 시청자의 의식에 영향을 주는 경향이 강하다. 본고에서는 HDTV 등과 같은 새로운 영상시스템의 개발로 TV드라마의 표현 방식에 근본적인 변화가 일어나기 시작했던 2000년대 초반의 미니시리즈 드라마 3편을 대상으로 TV드라마의 공간 이미지를 분석하였다. 본고에서 분석 대상으로 삼은 〈진실〉, 〈맛있는 청혼〉, 〈명랑소녀 성공기〉 등은 2000년부터 2002년까지 당해 연도 최고의 시청률을 기록한 미니시리즈 드라마들이다. 분석 결과, 3편의 미니시리즈 드라마들은 기본적으로 ‘무대’라는 공간을 설정하여 등장인물의 존재감과 변신, 그리고 극적 상황을 흥미롭게 만들면서 등장인물의 상징성을 효과적으로 전달하고 있다. 특히 기존의 신데렐라나 캔디 유형에서 벗어나 주체적인 여성상을 구현한 등장인물들이 ‘지하방, 재래시장, 옥탑방’처럼, 자본주의 사회에서 경제적 약자를 상징하는 공간에 거주한다는 극적 설정은 각별히 주목할 필요가 있다. 2000년대 초반 당해 연도 최고의 시청률을 기록한 3편의 미니시리즈 드라마들이 ‘가진 자와 못 가진 자’의 대립 구도를 표상하기 위해 공간을 구성하고 그 속에 주요 등장인물을 배치하는 전략을 구사하고 있기 때문이다. 본고에서 고찰한 바대로, TV드라마의 공간은 등장인물의 성격 표상과 사건 전개에 요한 극적요소이자 주제 의식의 현현(顯現)에 기여하는 상징적인 장치이다. 따라서 TV드라마의 공간 이미지 분석을 통해 TV드라마의 관습적 공간 구성 방식이 대중의 현실 인식에 미치는 영향력을 파악하는 것이 가능하다. 특히 대부분의 TV드라마가 ‘서울’을 주요 공간적 배경으로 설정함으로써 ‘대도시’에 대한 대중의 동경을 심화시키고, 동시에 ‘지방’에 대한 그릇된 고정관념을 강화하는 등 공간에 대한 대중의 인식을 왜곡시킬 수 있다는 점에서 보다 각별한 주의를 기울일 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

The spatial composition of TV dramas is a sort of signifier showing materialistic, inequal and political features. Accordingly, this study focused on the spatial images of TV dramas centering on three TV miniseries in the early 2000s when a fundamental change began to happen in expression methods in TV dramas due to the development of a new image system such as High Definition Television (HDTV). The TV miniseries under the study 〈Truth〉, 〈A Delicious Proposal〉, and 〈Success Story of A Bright Girl〉 had gained the highest viewing figures during the period from 2000 to 2002. The study showed that the three miniseries basically set up a space ‘Stage’ and unfolded characters’ existence, transformation, and dramatic situation in interesting ways to effectively deliver things they represent. Moreover it is worthy of notice the dramatic setting where the independent women, breaking away from the typical characters like Cinderella and Candy, lived in spaces ‘basement room’, ‘traditional market’, and ‘rooftop house’ representing economically disadvantaged group in a capitalistic society. That is, the tree miniseries with the highest viewing figures in the early 2000s worked out a strategy of constructing such spaces to show the conflict between the haves and the have-not and arranging main characters. According to the results of the study, the spaces of TV dramas are a dramatic element necessary for representing characters’ personality and unfolding events as well as a symbolic device contributing to subject matter being manifest. Therefore through the analysis of spatial images of TV dramas, their conventional spatial composition methods are available of finding out the influence on the general public’s reality perception. In particular, it is needed to pay special attention in distorting the general public’s perception to spaces as most of TV dramas set up Seoul as a main spatial background so that viewers’ desire for ‘large cities’ may be more deepened while wrong stereotypes to ‘the regions’ may be increased.
