자본주의적 세계에 대한 재현과 조소-이연주론

국문 초록

자본주의적 세계 안에 존재하지만 존재 의의는 불완전한 양상을 보이며, 극단적인 경우에 소거되기도 하는 대표적인 여성이 성매매(prostitution) 여성이다. 성매매를 성노예로 볼 것인가 아니면 성노동으로 볼 것인가에 대한 질문에 분명히 성노예로 인식하고 있음에도 불구하고 세계는 매매춘 여성들을 비난한다. 그것은 도덕적 가치 기준과 법률의 범주에서 어긋나 있는 이들의 행위가 결코 사회적으로 용인되지 못하는 것이며, 사회악으로 은유화 되기 때문이다. 본고는 매매춘 여성의 삶을 정면에서 호명한 이연주의 『매음녀가 있는 밤의 시장』을 대상으로 이연주의 시에 형상화된 매매춘 여성의 삶과 자본주의적 세계의 상관성에 대한 구명을 목적으로 하였다. 이연주는 자본주의적 세계의 변방에 위치한 매매춘 여성과 그들의 삶을 재현하는 과정을 통해 세계와 인간에 대한 질문을 던지고 있다. 자본주의적 폭력이 지배하는 세계는 가족의 해체를 불러 가장 기본적인 사회 단위의 삶을 영위할 수 없도록 강제한다. 또한 해체된 가족으로 인하여 개별자로 전락한 인간, 특히 여성은 궁극에는 몸으로 자본을 창출할 수밖에 없는 매매춘 여성으로 전화된 삶을 살아가게 된다. 그러나 세계는 이 여성을 피해자로 인지하지 않고 도리어 부도덕하다는 낙인을 찍어 세계로부터 영원히 추방시키려는 의지만을 드러내거나, 이중적 가치관으로 매매춘 여성을 비난한다. 세계에 의해 매매춘 여성으로 낙인찍힌 여성의 삶은 질곡일 수밖에 없다. 세계는 매매춘 여성의 부도덕함을 비난하지만, 이들은 세계를 원망하지 않는다. 바로 이 지점이 이연주가 매매춘 여성을 통해 재현하려는 세계의 모순이다. 틀림없이 존재하고 있음에도 불구하고 은밀히 감추려는 사회적 모순이 실재함을 재현하는 과정을 통해 세계를 조롱한다. 그 조롱의 주체가 세계에 의해 비난받던 매매춘 여성이라는 점은 의미심장하다.

영문 초록

Prostitutes are those who exist in the capitalist world but the meaning of their existence still seems to be defective, moreover, in extreme cases, they could be erased. As for the question if the sex trade is sexual slavery or sex labor, the world puts the blame on the prostitutes even though they definitely recognize it as sexual slavery. It is because their acts contrary to morality and legality cannot be socially accepted and they can be considered as social ills metaphorically. This study aims at inquiring into the relation between the capitalist world and the lives of prostitutes described in Yi Yeon-ju’s poetry, focusing on The Night Market with Prostitutes, calling the lives of prostitutes directly. Yi Yeon-ju asks a question about man and the world through the process of reconstructing the lives of prostitutes as well as prostitutes themselves placed at the border of the capitalist world. The world dominated by the capitalistic violence forces us not to lead the lives of the most basic unit of society by bringing about family disintegration. Also, the human fell into an individual because of family disintegration, especially women have to live damaged lives as prostitutes having no choice but to create capital using their own bodies. However, the world does not recognize prostitutes as victims but rather show their intention to expel these women from the world for good by branding them as immoral or criticize prostitutes with their ambivalent values. The life of th e woman who was branded as a prostitute by the world can break away from the yoke. Even though the world blames prostitutes for their immorality, they do not blame the world at all. It is the very point that Yi Yoen-ju tries to reconstruct the contradiction of the world through prostitutes. She makes fun of the world through reconstructing social conflict the world tries to hide secretly, even if knowing it exists definitely. It is significant that the subject of that mockery is the prostitute who was blamed by the world.
