긍정적 또래압력의 질적 사례 연구: 다정중학교를 대상으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 청소년기의 사회적 상호작용에서 중요한 영향을 미치는 또래압력을 중심으로, 긍정적 또래압력이 학교문화를 개선하는 데 기여할 수 있는 가능성을 탐구하고자 하였다. 기존 연구들이 주로 또래압력의 부정적 영향에 초점을 맞췄던 반면, 본 연구는 또래압력의 긍정적 측면에 주목하여 한국의 다정중학교 사례를 심층적으로 분석하였다. 연구는 Valente(2012)의 네트워크 개입 전략과 자기결정성 동기 이론을 이론적 틀로 삼아, 다정다감 에이전트 활동을 중심으로 긍정적 또래압력이 형성되고 확산되는 과정을 논의하였다. 연구 결과, 다정다감 에이전트들은 신뢰와 우호적 관계 형성을 핵심 가치로 삼아 긍정적 또래규범을 확립하였으며, 이를 통해 학교 구성원 간 신뢰와 관계성을 증진시켰다. 아울러, 학생들의 자율성, 유능감, 관계성과 같은 기본 심리 욕구를 충족시키는 과정에서 긍정적 또래동조성이 형성되었고, 이는 자발적 참여와 협력적 활동을 촉진하였다. 또한, 네트워크 개입 전략 중 개인 식별과 유도 전략이 활용되어, 다정다감 에이전트들이 변화 옹호자(champion)로서 또래압력을 학교 전반으로 확산시키는 데 중요한 역할을 수행하였다. 본 연구는 긍정적 또래압력이 학교문화를 건강하고 지속 가능한 방식으로 변화시키는 실질적 도구가 될 수 있음을 시사하며, 이를 통해 교육현장에서의 새로운 접근법을 제안한다. 마지막으로, 본 연구는 또래압력에 대한 기존의 부정적 인식을 넘어서 긍정적 가능성을 조명하고, 학교문화 개선을 위한 실천적 시사점을 제공하는 데 의의를 둔다.

영문 초록

This study investigates how positive peer pressure can transform school culture through a case study of Dajeong Middle School. While peer pressure is often viewed negatively in educational contexts, this research focuses on its potential as a positive force for change. The study employs Valente's (2012) network intervention strategies and Self-Determination Theory to analyze how the Dajeong Dagam Agents program effectively established and propagated positive peer pressure throughout the school community. The research findings demonstrate that the Dajeong Dagam Agents successfully fostered positive peer norms by establishing trust and building amicable relationships as foundational values. This approach strengthened trust and relatedness among school members. The program's effectiveness was rooted in satisfying students' basic psychological needs - autonomy, competence, and relatedness - which facilitated positive peer conformity and encouraged voluntary participation in collaborative activities. The study also reveals how network intervention strategies, particularly identification and induction, were effectively implemented, with Agents acting as change champions to expand the influence of positive peer pressure across the school. This research makes both theoretical and practical contributions to understanding how positive peer pressure can be leveraged to create a healthy and sustainable school culture. It presents an innovative framework for educational practice and provides actionable insights for schools seeking to harness peer pressure as a constructive force. By reconceptualizing peer pressure as a potential positive influence, this study opens new avenues for school culture improvement.
