국문 초록

이 연구는 한국에서 다문화 미술교육이 어떻게 이론화되고 발전되어 왔는지를 역사적으로 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 또한 최근 연구되어진 다문화 미술교육에 관한 논문을 분석하여 한국 다문화 미술교육의 흐름을 알아보고자 한다. 근래에 국제결혼 및 외국인 인구의 증가, 과학 기술 발달, 국제 교류 확대 등으로 인하여 한국 사회가 여러 외국 문화에 노출되고 있다. 이에 따라 많은 미술교육학자들이 한국의 다문화 현상에 주목하고 있으며 많은 연구들이 이루어지고 있다. 한국 다문화 미술교육의 특징 중에 하나는 급속히 증가하는 외국 문화에 대하여, 한국전통문화를 지켜나가고 강화를 해야 한다는 견해가 지배적이다. 그리고 많은 다문화미술교육 수업 예시를 보면 “ethic tourism(각 민족의 전통문화소개)”에 그치는 내용이 많다. 현재 한국에서 일어나는 여러 가지 다문화 현상에 대비하고, 서로 다른 문화를 이해하고 존중하며, 더 나아가 국제 시민으로서 경쟁력을 갖춘 인재를 양성하기 위해서는 다문화 미술교육의 본질이 무엇이고 그것을 위해서 어떤 다문화미술교육이 과정이 필요한지를 논하고자 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to examine how multicultural art education in Korea has been theorized so far and to analyze some examples of Korean emerging multicultural art education practices. Currently, many art educators pay attention to multicultural theories because of the rapid increase international immigration and intercultural marriages. Multicultural art education in Korea has, thus far, focused on traditional Korean art in order to reinforce its unique cultural identity in South Korea against the influx of foreign cultures. Another problem of multicultural art education in Korea is that many so called multicultural art practices are limited to ‘ethnic tourism’ and lack substantial cultural curriculum materials and resources. In order to keep current with the various world perspectives in education, sustainable development, diversity and pluralism, and to better prepare students for a more global world, the implementation of multicultural art education in Korea would seem to be the viable solution.
