국문 초록

본 연구는 발달장애 아동 부모의 경력단절과 재취업 경험 탐색을 목적으로 질적 연구방법을 사용하였다. 연구문제는 첫째, 발달장애 아동 부모들의 경력단절 경험은 어떠한가? 둘째, 발달장애아동 부모들의 재취업이 갖는 의미는 무엇인가?로 선정하였다. 발달장애 아동 부모들은 자녀가 또래 아이들보다 발달이 늦다는 것을 인지하였지만 심각한 문제로 인식하지 못하거나 막연한 불안으로 외면하였다. 자녀의 다름을 확인하고 장애를 의심하게 되면서 치료와 진단에 필요한 정확한 정보의 부재와 도움받을 곳이 없어 모든 과정을 부모가 오롯이 감내하였다. 자녀를 위해 경력단절을 선택하였으나 끝이 보이지 않는 치료와 사회적 단절로 삶이 멈춰버린 것 같았다. 자녀의 장애를 인정하게 되면서 자신을 되돌아보게 되고, 지치지 않는 부모 역할 수행을 위해 재취업을 선택하게 되었다. 재취업에서도 자녀의 치료시간 확보가 우선적 선택기준으로 작용하였다. 발달장애 부모들의 재취업은 경력단절 이전의 근무조건보다 낮은 수준이거나 전혀 다른 분야로 취업을 했지만, 다시 찾은 일상과 사회적 소통 안에서 자신을 회복하였다. 재취업 후에도 여전히 부모 역할에 대한 고민과 불안은 있었으나 자녀와의 적당한 거리가 오히려 관계를 더욱 단단하게 만들었고 일을 통해 새로운 희망을 그리게 되었다. 발달장애 아동 부모를 위해 가족지원서비스 제도의 확대와 교육과 치료 정보를 공유할 수 있는 국가적 차원의 시스템 마련이 요구된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the career interruption and re-employment experiences of parents of children with developmental disabilities. The research method used was a qualitative exploration method. The research questions are: First, what is the experience of career interruption among parents of children with developmental disabilities? Second, what is the meaning of re-employment for parents of children with developmental disabilities? Parents of children with developmental disabilities recognized that their children were developing later than their peers. However, it was not recognized as a serious problem or was ignored due to vague anxiety. I noticed that my child was different from other children and began to suspect that he had a disability. It was difficult to obtain accurate information needed for the treatment and diagnosis of children with developmental disabilities, and there was no place to get help, so parents had to endure the entire process. I chose to take a break from my career for the sake of my children, but my life felt like it was at a standstill due to endless treatment and social isolation. As I acknowledged my child's disability, I began to reflect on myself and chose to get a new job in order to fulfill my role as a tireless parent. Securing treatment time for children was a priority criterion for re-employment. The re-employment of parents with developmental disabilities was at a lower level than the working conditions prior to their career break, or they were employed in completely different fields. I recovered my sense of self through my daily life and social communication. Even after reemployment, I still worried and felt anxious about my role as a parent, but the appropriate distance from my children actually made my relationship stronger. There is a need to expand the family support service system for parents of children with developmental disabilities and to establish a system at the national level to share education and treatment information.
