EFL학습자의 영작문과 인공지능도구기반 영작문의 특징 비교

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 영어학습자들이 작성한 영어 쓰기 결과물과 인공지능기반 도구가 산출해낸 쓰기 출력물은 각각 어떠한 특징을 나타내고 있는가에 대하여 조사, 분석해보고자 하였다. 구체적으로 영어 쓰기 결과물의 기초적 특성과 글의 명확성 및 정확성 등에 대하여 분석해보고자 하였다. 5명 학생들이 제출한 영어 쓰기 결과물 2편씩(학생 작성 영어 쓰기 결과물과 인공지능생성 영어 쓰기 출력물) 총 10편의 글쓰기 저작물을 분석대상으로 하였다. 수집된 자료는 인공지능기반 글쓰기 평가도구(WordCounter, Grammarly 등)를 사용하여 양적 분석하였으며, 양적 분석 결과를 바탕으로 글쓰기 결과물을 문장 단위로 질적 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 학생 작성 및 인공지능생성 영어 쓰기 결과물의 기초적 특성에는 큰 차이가 없었으며, 어휘의 다양성 및 깊이 측면에서는 차이를 보였다. 또한, 글의 정확성 측면에서는 학생 작성 영어 쓰기 결과물이 인공지능생성 영어 쓰기 출력물에 비하여 현저하게 많은 오류를 범한 것으로 나타났으며, 명확성 측면에서는 인공지능생성 영어 쓰기 출력물에서는 더 많은 오류가 나타났다. 이와 같은 연구 결과의 도출로부터, 영어학습자를 위한 글쓰기지도 현장에서 인공지능도구들의 실질적인 구현 가능성 등의 교육적 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to find out the characteristics of outputs produced by artificial intelligence-based tools and English compositions written by English learners, in terms of general metrics, and accuracy and clarity, respectively. A total of 10 compositions (five students’ English compositions and five artificial intelligence produced outputs) submitted by five students were quantitatively analyzed by using artificial intelligence-based writing evaluation tools such as Wordcounter and Grammarly. In addition, the collected compositions were compared and qualitatively analyzed sentence by sentence by the researchers. The results of the study analysis are as follows: 1) There was no significant difference in the basic characteristics of the students’ English compositions and artificial intelligence produced outputs, but the qualitative analysis results at the sentence level showed differences in terms of vocabulary diversity and depth; 2) In terms of accuracy, the students’ English compositions had significantly more errors than the artificial intelligence produced outputs, and in terms of clarity, the artificial intelligence produced outputs had more errors. Base on the research findings, educational implications for the practical implementation of artificial intelligence tools in the EFL classroom were suggested.
