국문 초록

연구목적 친구와 적의 합성어인 프레너미는 또래와의 상호작용에 있어 부정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 따라서 교사는 긍정적인 친구 관계 촉진을 위해 프레너미 관계에 대해 이해하는 것이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구의 목적은 프레너미 관계에 대한 현장 교사의 이해를 돕고자 초등학생의 프레너미 관계 특성을 밝히는 것에 있다. 연구방법 프레너미 관계 경험이 있는 초등학교 5학년 학생 12명을 대상으로 일대일 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 일대일 심층 면담에는 반구조화된 질문지를 활용하였으며, 면담을 통해 얻은 내용은 반복적 비교분석 방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 연구진 3인은 각각 코딩과 범주화 단계 작업을 수행하고 이를 비교 분석하여 결론을 합의하는 과정을 거쳤다. 연구결과 프레너미 관계의 구조는 동등한 관계, 상하관계, 일방적 관계, 행동 양상은 간접적 적대감 표출, 이중적 행동, 종속적 요구, 사회관계 통제, 원인은 불가피한 상황 조성, 친구 관계 변질, 사회적 관계에 의한 형성으로 나타났다. 또한 영향은 심리적 불안, 학교 부적응, 교우관계 분열, 성찰 및 개인적 성장, 대처는 상황 회피, 감정 해소, 관계 회복 노력, 후속 변화는 관계 개선, 관계 소멸로 나타났다. 결론 교사는 학생들의 표면적 우정에 대해 경계해야 하며, 학생들이 교우관계에 대한 고민을 표현할 수 있는 허용적인 교실 분위기를 조성해야 한다. 또한 프레너미 관계를 건강한 관계로 전환시킬 수 있도록 학생을 도와주어야 한다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The term “frenemy,” combining “friend” and “enemy,” can negatively impact peer interactions. This study aimed to identify the characteristics of frenemy relationships among elementary students to help teachers understand and address this dynamic. Methods: One-on-one interviews were conducted with twelve fifth graders who had experienced frenemy relationships, using a semi-structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed through repetitive comparison, with three researchers independently coding and categorizing results. Results: Structures of frenemy relationships included equal, hierarchical, and one-sided dynamics, with behaviors like indirect hostility, dual actions, and dependency. The causes included unavoidable situations, friendship deterioration, and social influences. Influences involved psychological anxiety, school maladaptation, and peer relationship issues, while responses included avoidance, emotional expression, and attempts to restore relationships. Subsequent changes were observed with relationship improvement and relationship dissolution. Conclusion: Teachers should be attentive to superficial friendships, foster a classroom environment for open discussion on peer relationships, and support students in transforming frenemy relationships into healthier connections.
