일본 자민당 정권의 만엔 권 화폐인물 교체와 그 활용

국문 초록

본고는 일본의 새로운 만엔 권 초상의 인물로 선정된 시부사와 에이이치를 주인공으로 하는 NHK 대하드라마 『청천을 찔러라』를 통해 자민당 정권이 시부사와 에이이치와 미디어를 통해 표상된 그의 이미지를 어떻게 전략적으로 활용하였는지 여러 자료를 통해 살펴보았다. 드라마 『청천을 찔러라』의 주인공인 시부사와 에이이치는 인재와 자본의 협력인 합본주의를 신념으로 삼고 직접 사회 인프라를 구축하는 산업을 일으켜 일본 경제의 발전에 공헌한 인물이었다. 『청천을 찔러라』에서는 이 시부사와의 일대기를 그리는 한편 후반부인 31화부터 본격적으로 기업가·경제인으로 활약하는 모습이 연출된다. 2021년에 10월에 임기를 시작한 기시다 후미오 총리는 드라마를 통해 표상된 시부사와의 이미지를 자신의 새로운 경제정책인 ‘새로운 일본식 자본주의’를 선전하는 데 적극 활용하였다. 한국에서는 2019년에 일본의 새로운 지폐의 인물로 시부사와 에이이치가 발표되었을 때, 언론을 통해 아베의 역사 수정주의 선전 효과 가능성 등이 언급되는 등의 부정적인 보도가 잇따른 바 있다. 그러나 실제 일본에서 보도된 정치권 기사들과 NHK 드라마의 방영을 전후한 기시다 총리 취임의 상황을 두루 살펴보면, NHK 대하드라마 『청천을 찔러라』는 아소 재무대신과 아베 전 총리의 지휘 아래 기시다의 경제정책 선전을 통해 자민당에 대한 국민의 지지를 끌어올리고, 또 자민당 내부에서 자신들의 세력을 유지하는 전략인 동시에 새로운 레이와 시대를 맞아 일본 국민들에게 그동안 침체되었던 일본 경제와 사회의 분위기를 반전시키는 역할로 활용되었다고 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper examined how the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan regime strategically used Shibusawa Eiichi and his image represented through the media through the NHK Taiga historical drama “Reach Beyond the Blue Sky” featuring Eiichi Shibusawa, who was selected as Japan's new 10000 yen note. Eiichi Shibusawa, the main character of the drama “Reach Beyond the Blue Sky”, was a person who contributed to the development of the Japanese economy by creating an industry that directly established social infrastructure with a belief in unity, which is a cooperation between talent and capital. In “Reach Beyond the Blue Sky”, while depicting the life story of this Shibusawa, he appears to be active as an entrepreneur and businessman in earnest from the 31st episode in the second half. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who started his term in October 2021, actively utilized the image of Shibusawa represented through the drama to promote his new economic policy, “New Form of Capitalism.” In Korea, when Eiichi Shibusawa was announced as a new Japanese banknote in 2019, there were a series of negative reports, including the possibility of Abe's historical revisionist propaganda effect through the media. However, looking at the political articles reported in Japan and the situation of Prime Minister Kishida's inauguration before and after the NHK drama aired, NHK Taiga historical drama “Reach Beyond the Blue Sky” was used to raise public support for the Liberal Democratic Party through Kishida's economic policy propaganda under the leadership of Finance Minister Aso and former Prime Minister Abe, and to maintain their power within the Liberal Democratic Party, and to change the atmosphere of the Japanese economy and society that had been stagnant for the Japanese people in the new Reiwa era.
