잡지 『변태심리(変態心理)』에 나타난 사회적 담론

국문 초록

본 연구는 잡지 『변태심리』의 전체상을 조망하기 위한 첫 번째 작업으로 『변태심리』의 <최신의 학설>란 기사를 중심으로 동시기 ‘변태’를 둘러싸고 어떤 사회적 담론이 있었는지 파악하고, 이러한 담론이 잡지 『변태심리』와 어떠한 의미관계를 형성하는지 알아보았다. 이를 위해 먼저 『변태심리』의 편집주간으로 활동한 나카무라 고쿄의 이력과 『변태심리』의 창간 의도를 살펴보고, 학회 기관지로서 『변태심리』의 위치를 파악해 보았다. ‘일본정신의학회’ 설립한 나카무라 고쿄는 정신적 질환을 치료하는 데 물질 의학만으로는 치료가 어렵다고 주장하며 기존 제도권 연구에서 벗어나 임상심리학, 사회심리학, 사회병리에 해당하는 분야를 연구하였다. 그리고 이와 관련된 기사들을 『변태심리』에 게재하였다. 특히 이 잡지는 동시기 학지(学知)의 최선단에 있었던 법학사, 문학사, 종교가, 신문기자 등을 ‘일본정신의학회’ 회원으로 가입시키고, 그들의 연구 논문 및 기사를 꾸준히 실었다. 이러한 논문과 기사의 게재는 『변태심리』가 학술적 잡지로서 자리매김할 수 있었다. 두 번째로, <최신의 학설>란의 전체 기사 제목에서 핵심이 되는 주제어를 도출하고 주제어와 관련된 연관어의 연결 양상을 분석하여 당시 주제를 인식하는 관점을 살펴보았다. 잡지 『변태심리』는 ‘<최신의 학설>란에, 다른 신문과 잡지에서 ‘변태’의 범주에 해당하는 다양한 사회문제를 학술적 관점에서 다룬 기사를 발췌하여 꾸준히 소개하였기 때문이다. 『변태심리』의 <최신의 학설>란 총 667건의 기사 제목에서 출현 빈도가 높은 주제어를 분석한 결과, ‘정신’, ‘심리’, ‘범죄’, ‘교육’, ‘종교’, ‘미신’ 등의 순으로 등장한 것을 알 수 있었다. 이를 바탕으로 이 잡지가 ‘변태’의 범주에 있는 정신질환, 이상심리, 불량소년/소녀, 여성의 범죄뿐만 아니라 아동의 행동양식, 미신, 사교 등을 학술적으로 해석하고자 했음을 알 수 있었고, ‘변태’의 범주에 속하는 다양한 사회 양상이 『변태심리』 잡지에서만이 아니라, 일반 심리학, 철학 교육학 등의 여러 학술적 방면에서 논의되고 있었다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the overall picture of the magazine “Hentaishinri”. As a first step, articles from the magazine's “The Latest Theories” section were used to examine the social discourse around “Hentai(perversion)” during the same time period and how this discourse related to the magazine. I examine the career of Gokyo Nakamura, who served as the magazine's editor-in-chief, and the intentions behind the magazine's creation, and identify the position of “Hentaishinri” as an academic journal. Nakamura, who founded the Japanese Psychiatric Association, argued that mental illnesses could not be cured by physical medicine alone, and broke away from the existing institutionalized research to study clinical psychology, social psychology, and sociopathology, and published articles related to these fields in “Hentaishinri”. In particular, lawyers, literary scholars, religious scholars, and newspaper reporters who were on the cutting edge of academia at the same time joined the Japanese Psychiatric Association as members, and their research papers and articles were consistently published through the magazine. Thanks to the publication of these papers and articles, “Hentaishinri” was able to establish itself as a scholarly magazine. Second, I identified key words in the titles of all articles in the “The Latest Theories” section and analyzed the connections between the key words and related words. In the section of the magazine, articles on various social issues that fall under the category of “Hentai” in other newspapers and magazines were consistently introduced from an academic perspective. I analyzed the most frequent keywords in the titles of 667 articles in the section and found that they were “mind,” “psychology,” “crime,” “education,” “religion,” and “superstition,” in that order. It can be said that the magazine tried to analyze not only mental illness, abnormal psychology, delinquent boys/girls, and women's crimes in the category of ‘Hentai,’ but also children's behavior, superstition, and socialization, and that various social aspects under the category of ‘Hentai’ were discussed in various academic fields such as general psychology and philosophical pedagogy, not only in the “Hentaishinri” magazine.
