근세 유녀 문예와 지식 권력론 서설

국문 초록

이 논문에서는 유녀와 유곽 공동체에 대한 대상화된 기술(항담/공문서/실용정보서/생활사전/백과사전/각종 문예 장르)을 한 도막의 이야기 텍스트이자 담론실천의 사례로 간주하여 유곽 문화에 관한 당대의 자화상을 탐색했다. 특히 당대 남성 독자에게 제공된 지식정보들이 문예물과 어찌 상관하고 있는지, 텍스트 생산/텍스트에 대한 해석(인식, 상호작용)과정에서 어떤 유형의 담론들이 도입되고 그것들은 어떻게 결합하고 있는지, 서술의 층위를 분석하는 관점의 필요성을 지적했다. 구체적으로 명작으로 주목받았으나 해석에 난점이 있던 사이카쿠의 『제염대감(諸艶大鑑)』(1684년 간행) 권5의 제3화｢죽으면 함께 목검(死ば諸共の木刀)｣을 독해했다. 이 이야기에서 유녀와 유객의 언행은 유곽 놀이에 관한 동시대 담론들과 상관하고 있고 유곽 문화에 대한 독특하고 이질적인 시좌를 마련하고 있었다. 당대의 항설 및｢죽으면 함께 목검｣의 영향을 받은 소설을 새롭게 보고하며 이들의 관계 양상을 밝혔는데, 모두 유녀의 속내를 의심하고 본심을 투시하려는 유객의 요구와 유녀의 반응, 진심이 판별된 이후 유녀의 말로(파탄/몰락/낙적)까지 명확히 결착시키는 <공통 서사>가 형성되어 있음을 확인했다. 그런데｢죽으면 함께 목검｣의 언술은 주인공 한루의 기만적인 연기와 와카야마의 응대가 길항하고 있고, 이는 당대의 유녀와 유객의 유흥 전략 및 색도(色道)론이 배경으로 되어 있었다. 독자는 담론(지식정보)이 환기하는 유흥 전략 및 유녀와 유객의 상호 응수(應酬)의 이미지 망 속에서 와카야마의 마음을 투시하려는(유녀의 속내가 끝내 드러나는 여타 이야기들처럼 서사자[語り手]의 시점과 언술을 기대하는) 공모(共謀)적 읽기의 재미를 추구하게 되나, B의 서사자와 독자는 심리적으로 동조되지 않는 거리가 유지된 채, 와카야마의 연기는 실패하지 않고 진정은 모호하게 남는다. <투시 욕망>이 좌절토록 언술이 조정되는데 이점을 포착하지 못해 일부 전집류에는 본문교정 단계에서 해석상 혼란이 생긴 점도 확인했다. 이 이야기는 남성 독자에게 제공된 지식정보/담론(‘타자적 글쓰기’)을 포석으로 두되 그러한 글쓰기(담론)와 인식이 반복되지 않는 임계점의 사건으로 다유(太夫) 와카야마와 다이진(大尽) 한루의 상황극을 구성하고 있다. 유곽에서 삶을 영위해간 유녀들의 정념과 내밀한 이해득실이 어우러진 유곽 놀이에 대한 비평의 시좌가 오락적 흥미와 함께 형성되고 있었다. 다양한 유형의 유녀평판기와 사건/사고의 항설들, 대중 서사를 지닌 풍속소설들이 어떻게 얽혀 있는지, 텍스트/담론적 관계성(intertextuality/interdiscursivity)에 주목하면 문제의식의 구성과 자료 선정의 방식도 갱신될 것이며, 기존의 역사학에서 과제로 제출된 유녀 노동 양상의 발굴과 인간관계(유녀와 유객/유녀 동료들/유객 사이의 관계)의 규명도 새로이 시도될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study tried to analyze the “problematic self-portraits” of the time by considering the subjective description of events/accidents related to Yūjo(prostitute) and Yūkaku(legal red-light districts) Culture. Specifically, Saikaku's 『Shōen- Okagami』｢If you die, let's go with the wooden sword｣, which has attracted attention as a traditional masterpiece but had difficulties in interpreting the story, was chosen as the starting text, and how the words and actions of Yūjo and Yūkaku Culture.are related to the discourse of the time related to the play of the time, and how they prepare a unique and heterogeneous critique of the Yūkaku Culture, and the concrete practice of writing were considered. As a result of newly reporting the novel of customs and customs influenced by contemporary Rumor and ｢If you die, let's go with the wooden sword｣ and revealing their relationship patterns, a “common narrative” was formed in all of these stories to confirm the sincerity of the ‘Wakayama’(Yūjo) and to see the determination of the breakdown/fall/decline of the Yūjo after determining whether she responded and the sincerity of the Yūjo. However, ｢If you die, let's go with the wooden sword｣'s attitude of narrative is composed in the form of antagonizing the skepticism of the protagonist ‘Hanru’ and the response of the ‘Wakayama’, and this was closely related to the position of discourse on the relationship between the Yūjo and the Guest of the discourse/strategy of entertainment and the theory of Shiki-do(色道). As a result, the reader pursues the fun of reading the inner thoughts of the ‘Wakayama’ in the image network of the strategy of the Yūjo and the Guest evoked by the contemporary discourse in this story. Wakayama's acting does not fail. it does not end with the collapse of the Yūjo. While keeping the knowledge information/discussion provided to male readers as the basis, such writing and perceptions are not repeated, a situational skit between Da-yu (太夫) ‘Wakayama’ and Daijin (大尽) ‘Hanru’ was formed as a “Critical Event”.
