국문 초록

목적: 이 연구는 레비나스의 타자 철학을 토대로 읽기에서 독자의 주체성을 형성할 수 있는 방향을 탐구한다. 방법: 레비나스에 의하면 주체의 지향은 전체성과 무한성으로 구분된다. 현행 읽기 교육 전반은 전체성을 지향하는 자아의 자기동일성으로서 자아 중심 주체성을 상정한다. 독자는 자신의 욕구 충족을 위하여 텍스트 의미를 자율적으로 조절하고 변형한다. 이와 같은 독자의 읽기 목적은 자아의 기존 영역의 확장에 있다. 텍스트 의미 구성은 독자 내부 의식의 단순 상기에 불과하기 때문에 독자는 비슷한 의미 구성을 반복하게 된다. 자아 중심 주체성에서 텍스트는 수단화되며, 독자는 세계를 질적으로 변화시키지 못하고 주체성을 상실한다. 결과: 본고는 자아 중심성에서 벗어나 텍스트 타자를 환대하며 적절하게 소통하는 타자 지향 주체성으로 주체성을 재정립하였다. 텍스트 타자와의 소통은 독자 의식 내부의 이해를 넘어서는 무한성의 차원이다. 주체는 텍스트 타자가 지닌 무한성을 인정하고 자기 동일성으로는 이해 불가능한 의미를 생성하고자 노력한다. 이는 실제적인 실행을 포함하며, 새로운 세계를 형성해나가는 주체는 자신의 고유성을 증진한다. 결론: 독자는 읽기를 통해 자신의 삶을 질적으로 변화시킬 때 주체성을 획득한다.

영문 초록

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop the subjectivity of the reader, focusing on the philosophy of Levinas. Methods: According to Levinas, the current reading education assumes self-centered subjectivity as self-identity which is aiming for totality. The reader autonomously adjusts and transforms the meaning of the text to satisfy his or her needs. The purpose of the reader’s reading is to expand the existing area of the self. Since the meaning construction of text is only a simple remining of the reader’s internal consciousness, the reader repeats a similar results. The text becomes a means and the reader loses subjectivity without changing his or her world qualitatively. Results: This study reconceptualize the subjectivity of reader as other-oriented subjectivity that appropriately communicates with the other in hospitality. The communication with the text-other is a dimension of infinity that goes beyond the understanding within consciousness of the reader. The reader recognizes the infinity of the text-other and tries to generate meanings that cannot be understood by self-identity. Conclusion: The reader acquires subjectivity by changing change their lives qualitatively through reading.
