국문 초록

이 글의 목적은 『그 남자네 집』에 나타나고 있는 기억과 장소의 양상을 재구조화(re-constructing)로 명명하고, 그것을 ‘창조적 파괴’라고 하는 자본주의의 일반적 원리의 서사화로서 설명하는 것이다. 『그 남자네 집』에서 의도적인 과거의 망각, 과거에 대한 평가절하, 오래된 장소의 해체와 같은 일들이 벌어지고 있으며, 이는 과거를 파괴하는 일이면서 삶의 여건을 개선하는 실천이라는 점을 논증했다. 그리고 이것이 파괴를 통해 생산을 수행하는 자본주의 원리를 표현하고 있음을 드러냈다. 2장에서는 『그 남자네 집』이 창조적 파괴의 원리를 서사화하고 있는 양상을, 기억의 문제와 관련해서 살펴보았다. 『그 남자네 집』에서 ‘나’는 과거의 기억을 재구조화했다. 그녀는 심현보의 실명, 춘희의 ‘양공주’로의 전락, 광수 자녀의 장애에 대한 죄책감을 편집하여 서술했다. 이러한 의도적인 기억상실의 트릭은, 과거의 악조건을 파괴함으로써 새로운 삶의 환경을 조성하고자 하는 실천이었다. 3장에서는 장소의 문제와 관련하여 『그 남자네 집』의 창조적 파괴의 양상을 살펴보았다. 이 소설에서 도시화 과정이 생산한 몰개성적이며 진정성 없는 경관은, 장소에 대한 혐오를 중화시키는 환경으로 나타났다. 즉 장소상실은 전쟁에 따른 가족 상실의 무참한 기억을 해방시키는 힘으로 나타났다. 이러한 해석은 박완서 소설에서 기억과 장소의 문제가 가지고 있는 복잡성을 드러낸다. 박완서는 한편으로 과거를 망각하고 장소를 파괴하는 방식으로 진행되는 도시화의 폭력성을 포착했다. 그러나 다른 한편으로는 파괴를 재생(再生)과 연결시키는 모순을 보여주었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this article is to define the aspect of memory and place appearing in The Man’s House as re-constructing, and to explain it as a narrative of the general principle of capitalism called ‘creative destruction’. Things such as intentional oblivion of the past, devaluation of the past, and dismantling of old places are taking place in The Man’s House, and this is a practice that destroys the past and improves conditions of everyday life. And it was revealed that this expresses the principle of capitalism that performs production through destruction. Chapter 2 examines the aspect of the novel narrating the principle of creative destruction in relation to memory. In the novel, ‘I’ restructured memories of the past. She edited and described the memory of guilt of Shim Hyun-bo losing sight, Chun-hee becoming a prostitute, and Kwang-soo’s children becoming disabled. This fictional testiphony can be understood as an practice to create a better environment of life by destroying the bad conditions of the past. Chapter 3 examines aspects of creative destruction in relation to place. In the novel, it was found that the landscape of placelessness produced by urbanization neutralizes the topo-phobia. In other words, placelessness liberates ‘I’ from the terrible memories of loss of family due to war. This interpretation reveals the complexity of the problem of memory and place in Park, Wan-seo’s novel. On the one hand, Park captured the violence of urbanization in a way that forgets the past and destroys the place. However, on the other hand, it showed a contradiction that linked destruction to regeneration.
