국문 초록

이 논문은 1940년 이후 발표된 김남천의 산문 가운데 전집에 수록되지 않은 글들의 내용을 정리하면서 김남천 문학의 확장된 외연을 새롭게 그려보기 위한 시론으로, 이전 시기에 비해 더 극적인 변화와 부침을 보여주고 있는 그 과정을 네 국면으로 나누어 살펴보았다. (1) 1940년대에 접어든 초기의 김남천의 산문에서는 그가 기술적인 측면과 관련해서는 상대적으로 적극적인 반응을 보인 반면, 시의적 현실에 대해서는 소극적으로 대처하며 거리를 두는 모습을 보여주고 있었다. 이런 모습에서 김남천이 이전에 비해 보다 복잡해진 통치성에 대해 그 나름의 대응을 수행했다는 사실을 엿볼 수 있었다. (2) 또한 일제 말기에 쓴 것으로 확인된 몇 편의 글은 다른 시기에 비해 양적으로도 빈약할 뿐만 아니라 내용에서도 생활이나 과거의 기억과 관련된 사소한 문제에 한정함으로써 현실과의 대면을 의식적으로 피하는 양상을 나타내고 있었다. 그런 태도로부터 일제 말의 외적 억압 속에서 그가 수동적인 자세로나마 부정적인 시대를 견디고자 했던 흔적을 세부적으로 확인할 수 있었다. (3) 한편 해방 이후의 산문들은 그의 문학에 다시 이념과 조직, 실천의 문제가 도입되는 양상을, 그러나 부분적으로는 그와 같은 상황에 대한 불안을 함께 드러내고 있었다. 그와 같은 양가적인 면모는 한편으로 독립되고 민주적인 민족 국가와 민족 문학을 위해 그가 기울인 노력과 열정을 구체적으로 보여주면서도, 그의 바람대로 전개되지 않는 현실적 상황의 추이에 대한 그의 감각적 인식을 담고 있었다. (4) 월북 이후의 산문들은 집단의 이데올로기가 그대로 활자화된 것으로 거기에서는 김남천의 개별적인 목소리를 느낄 수 없었다. 그런 텍스트의 상태로부터 이미 전쟁과 분단의 과정에서 그가 직면해야 했던 비극적인 운명이 예감되고 있었다고 하겠다. 김남천 문학의 확장된 외연을 정리한 이 시론은 이후 그 전체적 구도에 내재된 개별적인 논점과 의미에 대한 분석으로 이어질 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This thesis is an essay to reimagine the expanded extension of Kim Nam-cheon’s literature while arranging the contents of his prose published after 1940 that were not included in the complete collection. The process was divided into four phases. (1) In the early prose of Kim Nam-cheon in the 1940s, he showed a relatively active reaction with respect to technical aspects, but kept a distance from the current events passively coping with them. From this figure, we could see the fact that Kim Nam-cheon had his own response to the more complex govermentality than ever before. (2) In addition, some of the writings confirmed to have been written in the late Japanese colonial period were not only quantitatively poor compared to other periods, but also consciously avoid confrontation with reality by limiting their content to trivial problems related to life and past memories. From such an attitude, it was possible to confirm in detail the traces of his willingness to endure negative times with a passive attitude amid the external oppression of the Japanese colonial era. (3) On the other hand, the prose after liberation showed the aspect of introducing the problems of ideology, organization, and practice back into his literature, but partly with the anxiety about such a situation. Such an ambivalent aspect concretely showed his efforts and passion for an independent and democratic nation-state and national literature, but also contained his sensuous perception of the current situation that did not unfold as he wished. (4) The prose after his going to North Korea over border was as if the ideology of the government power was directly printed, and Kim Nam-cheon’s individual voice could not be felt there. From the state of such texts, it can be said that the tragic fate he had to face in the process of war and division had already been foreshadowed. This essay, which tried to supplement and extend the extension of Kim Nam-cheon’s literature, needs to lead to an analysis of the individual issues and meanings inherent in the overall composition.
