국문 초록

전후 냉전-분단 체제하 반공국가로서 자신의 정체성을 강화해갔던 남한사회에서 이념 공간의 구획, 경계 긋기의 작업이 수행되는 가운데 반공포로들은 자신들을 둘러싼/관통한 경계를 넘어서고자 했다. 1953년 정전 협정을 전후해 전쟁 포로들의 이동을 서사화하고 있는 포로 서사들은 일차적으로 반공국가로 일신해간 남한 체제의 정당성을 뒷받침하는 서사 전략을 취하고 있다. 그것은 포로들의 석방과 그러한 석방이 자유 대한으로서 남한사회의 국민-되기의 과정으로 수렴되기 때문이다. 하지만 그와 같은 서사에서 전쟁 포로들의 남한사회로의 생환이나 진입이 쉽게 이루어지지 않는다. 이를 통해 자유민주주의 국가로서 남한을 선택하는 과정에서의 사상의 전향, 신원 증명, 반공주의적 태도 등이 이념의 경계선을 구획하는 통치성을 강화시키기는커녕 오히려 그러한 통치성의 폭력성을 여실히 드러내고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 반공포로였기 때문에 석방되어 남한에 잔류할 수 있었지만, 그것이 석방 이전 포로수용소의 경계를 넘어선 것은 아니었을 뿐만 아니라 국민이라는 새로운 경계 속에 포섭된 것도 아니었다. 결국 석방 포로에게 남한사회는 석방 이전의 포로수용소와 같은 공간이었다. 그러니 자유를 위한 석방은 불가능하고, 포로수용소의 경계를 넘는 월경의 욕망은 좌절되었던 것이다.

영문 초록

In South Korean society, which has strengthened its identity as an anti-communist nation under the post-war Cold War-division regime, while the demarcating the ideological space was being carried out, the anti-communist prisoners of war tried to transcend the boundaries surrounding/penetrating themselves. The prisoners of war narratives that describe the movement of prisoners of war before and after the 1953 armistice agreement are primarily taking a narrative strategy that supports the legitimacy of the South Korean regime, which has been renewed as an anti-communist state. This is because the release of prisoners of war and such release converge to the process of becoming a citizen of South Korean society as a free Korea. However, in such a narrative, the reincarnation or entry of prisoners of war into South Korean society is not easy. Through this, it can be confirmed that the shift in ideology, identification, and anti-communist attitude in the process of choosing South Korea as a liberal democracy does not neutralize the governmental character that demarcates the boundaries of ideology, but rather reveals the violence of such governmentality. Because he was an anti-communist prisoner of war, he was released and allowed to stay in South Korea, but it did not cross the boundaries of the prisoner of war camp before his release, nor did he become entrapped in the new boundary of the people. In the end, South Korean society was like a prisoner of war camp before release. Therefore, release for freedom is impossible, and the desire to cross the border of the concentration camps is thwarted.
