국문 초록

여성의 정체성 찾기를 다루는 소설은 1990년대 이후 ‘남성중심주의 사회 제도, 폭력적 남성, 희생되는 여성’이라는 도식적인 서사구조에서 벗어나 다양한 층위에서 여성 문제에 접근하고 있다. 따라서 규범, 주체, 타자의 관계를 핵심축으로 하는 주체 형성 과정에 주목해 이들 작품에 접근할 필요가 있다. 본고는 이러한 입장에서 오정희의 ｢옛 우물｣, 한강의 ｢몽고반점｣, 주지영의 ｢사나사나｣에 나타나는 여성 정체성 찾기를 고찰하였다. 세 작품 모두 남성/여성의 단순한 이분법적 대립구조를 넘어, 보편규범과 특수규범의 대립, 주체와 타자의 대립, 타자의 특수규범에 대한 지향을 공통적으로 다루고 있다. 그러면서 ｢옛 우물｣에는 경계선상의 주체가 등장하지 않는 점, ｢몽고반점｣에서는 특수규범의 세계에 틈입하는 경계선상의 주체가, ｢사나사나｣에서는 경계를 가로질러 특수규범을 이동시키는 번역의 단계로 나아가는 경계선상의 주체가 등장한다는 점에서 차이를 지닌다. 오정희의 ｢옛 우물｣의 여성 ‘나’는 ‘옛 우물’로 표상되는 모성성의 세계를 특수규범으로 설정하고, 이 규범을 통해 타자로서 도구화된 ‘나’를 해체하고 새로운 ‘나’의 정체성을 확보한다. 한강의 ｢몽고반점｣의 처제는 동물적 폭력이 난무하는 보편규범에 길들여지기를 거부하고 ‘몽고반점’으로 표상되는 특수규범을 강렬히 욕망함으로써 화석화되어 간다. 한편 ‘그’는 처제의 특수규범의 세계로 나아가는 경계선상의 주체로 등장한다. 주지영의 ｢사나사나｣의 여성 소설가 ‘나’는 도구화된 여성 되기를 거부하고 두 명의 경계선상의 주체를 매개로 해서 ‘옹이 나무’로 표상되는 특수규범으로 나아간다. ‘나’는 ‘옹이의 언어’로 ‘옹이의 세계’를 지향하는 소설을 쓰고자 함으로써, 경계를 가로질러 특수규범을 이동(번역)시켜 보편규범을 재정식화하는 경계선상의 주체로 질적으로 전회한다. ‘소설가’이자 ‘번역가’인 이러한 여성 인물 ‘나’의 등장으로, 이 작품은 현 단계 여성 정체성 찾기 소설이 나아갈 한 방향을 강렬하게 제시하게 된다.

영문 초록

Since the 1990s, novels dealing with women’s identities have been approaching women’s problems from various levels, away from the schematic narrative structure of “male-centered social system, violent men, and victimized women.” Therefore, it is necessary to approach these works, paying attention to the process of forming a subject that has the relationship of norms, subjects, and others. From this point of view, this paper considered finding female identity of Oh Jeong-hee’s “the Old Well”, Han kang “Mongo Banjeom”, and Ju Ji-young’s “Sana Sana”. All three works commonly deal with the confrontation between universal and special norms, the confrontation between subjects and others, and the orientation of others to special norms. The difference is that “the Old Well” does not have a boundary-line subject, “Mongo Banjeom” shows a boundary-line subject that aims for special norms, and “Sana Sana” shows a boundary-line subject that moves special norms across the boundary. ‘I’ in “the Old Well” sets the world of motherhood which is represented as ‘Old Well’ as a special norm, and through this norm, the instrumentalized ‘I’ is dismantled and the identity of the new ‘I’ is secured. The sister-in-law of “Mongo Banjeom” refuses to be tamed by universal norms rampant in animal violence. She is becoming fossilized by intense desire for special norms represented as ‘mongolian mark’. Meanwhile, ‘he’ appears as a boundary-line subject that aims for special norms of the sister-in-law. The female novelist ‘I’ of “Sana Sana” refuses to be a tooled woman and moves on to a special norm represented by ‘knotty tree’ through the medium of two boundary-line subjects. I’m going to write a novel aimed at ‘the world of the knotty tree’ in ‘the language of knotty tree.’ Through this, I translate special norms across boundaries and turn qualitatively to a boundary-line subject that redefines the universal norms. With the advent of the female character ‘I’ who is a novelist and a translator, this work strongly suggests the direction that novels seeking female identity today will take.
