한ㆍ미 양국민의 라이프스타일에 따른 템플스테이 참가의사결정에 관한 비교연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 템플스테이에 참가하는 한국과 미국 양국민의 라이프스타일과 참가의사결정을 비교 연구하고자 한다. 먼저 라이프스타일에 대한 요인분석을 통해 여가활동형, 건실노력형, 과시성향형, 남녀평등추구형, 가족중심형, 자기중심형의 6개 요인이 추출되었다. 이들 라이프스타일 요인별로 한국민과 미국인의 차이분석를 실시한 결과, 한국인 참가자의 경우, 미국인 참가자에 비해 규칙적인 생활을 영위하는 건실노력형이 강하고, 보다 가족중심적인 것으로 나타났으며, 미국인 참가자의 경우는 한국인 참가자에 비해 적극적인 여가활동을 나타내며, 과시성향을 보이고, 남녀의 평등추구에 보다 긍정적이며, 자기중심적인 면을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 국가별 정보탐색방법의 차이분석에서는 한국인의 경우 인터넷을 주로 이용하며, 미국인은 관광책자를 통해 정보를 취득하는 것으로 나타났다. 템플스테이 사찰을 선택시에는 한국인은 가격과 프로그램을 중시하며, 미국인은 접근성을 가장 중요하게 생각하는 것으로 나타났다. 템플스테이 체험활동에 대한 선호도에 있어서는 한국인과 미국인 모두 다도체험을 가장 선호하는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

Temple-stay is becoming an increasingly interested area of cultural tourism. However, there is limited empirical research on temple-stay participants’ behavior. This study aims to compare lifestyle between Korean and American participants. Data were collected from a sample of 200 temple-stay participants. A self-completion questionnaire was used to measure lifestyle, selection attribute and activity preference. The factor analysis identified six underlying dimensions: ‘recreation’, ‘sincerity’, ‘show-off’, ‘gender equality’, ‘family’ and ‘egoist’. Significant differences in lifestyle dimensions were found between Korean and American participants. While American participants are more likely to be show-off/ recreation-oriented, Korean are more likely to be sincerity/family-oriented. With regard to selection attribute, American participants placed a higher importance on ‘ease accessibility’, ‘reputation/image’ and ‘rich information’ than did Korean participants. In contrast, ‘price’ and ‘various program’ are considered as the most important attributes by Korean participants. The study also showed that tea ceremony was the most preferred temple-stay activity for American participants, followed by baru gogyang, temple tour and ceremonial service. On the other hand, Korean participants prefer tea ceremony the most, followed by 108 bows, ceremonial service and temple tour. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings are discussed.
