기상변수의 섬유의류산업에 대한 경제적 영향분석과 시사점

국문 초록

기상 및 기상 관련 위험요인은 산업 활동 특히 자본재에 비하여 최종소비재 산업에 민감한 영향을 미친다. 본 연구에서는 섬유의류업의 기업을 대상으로 부정적인 기상정보가 미치는 경제적 파급효과를 이론적으로 검토하고, 통계분석 방법론을 적용하여 실증적으로 고찰한다. 대표적인 최종소비재 제품을 생산하는 섬유의류기업을 대상으로 기온변수가 매출액 변수로 파악되는 해당 기업의 경제활동에 미치는 영향을 통계적으로 추정한다. 기상변수 가운데 온도격차는 섬유의류업의 경제적 성과에 영향을 유의하게 미치는 것으로 나타났고, 온도격차의 효과는 점진적으로 적어지는 점을 반영한다. 온도변수가 산업 활동에 미치는 효과는 생산과 소비에 미치는 직접적 영향 이외에도 구매를 위한 이동, 유통, 운송, 보관 등 경제활동에 소요되는 거래비용이 증가하는 데 따른 것으로 분석된다. 계절변수는 계절적 차이에 따라 선행적으로 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 기상변수의 산업별 그리고 개별기업별 영향은 경제사회의 복잡화, 기술의 고도화, 지식서비스의 증대 등으로 인하여 파급 영향이 크게 확대되므로 제조업 부문에서는 기상변수에 대한 적극적인 대응이 필요하다. 특히 기상정보의 효율적 활용은 산업부문의 거래비용을 감소시키며, 생산요소 투입, 물류 관리, 운송의 최적화, 제품 구조의 개선 등을 통해 기상이변으로 인한 위험을 감소시킬 수 있다.

영문 초록

The risks of weather and climate change is assumed to affect more on the final goods industries than capital goods. This study attempts to analyze the economic impacts of negative weather phenomena on the textile and apparel industry, using statistical method. According to the estimating results, temperature-related variables, such as differences of cooling and heating degree-days has substantial effects on the sales with strong significance. The effects of the temperature variables is estimated to increase with decreasing rate as the values increase. The temperature differences from the averages seem to affect negatively on the firms’ performances through increasing costs of transportation, logistics, storage. and retailing as well as direct impacts on the consumer behavior and production. Seasonal variable is estimated to influence on sales precedently. It is necessary to make appropriate measures to reduce the negative impacts since the uncertain changes in socio-economic structure and complexity for the firms. It is highly recommended to use more systematic weather information to reduce transaction costs by efficient production input management, optimization of transportation and logistics system, and improvement in product mix.
